I am going to do a rebuild on my 04 corbra, has a hellion sigle kit on it at 784hp at 17lbs on e-85, my goal is to get it to 850ish on 20-22psi after the rebuild. Im getting a teksid block, i will reuse the crank and rods with arp bolts but im going to get new pistons .020 over. Anyone have any current preference on pistons they are using or have any experience they would like to share?

why are you going .020 over the block? Does it need it? you want to take as little as possible out of the bore.. You need strength. Take as little as possible out, and look into GIBTEC pistons.. They will custom build them for you for the cost of off the shelf.

Custom gibtec Pistons are the way to go. They were designed specifically for our motors and you can get them in 0.001 increments, so no need to go 020 over.

If you do decide to go .020 I have a really nice set of Diamonds I'd make you a deal on. They're extremely beefy and rated for 2500+ HP by Diamond. Super strong H13 wrist pins with it. They are flat tops with -1.64 cc intake valve reliefs which will put you around 10.5 CR.

Otherwise if you need something else I agree look at the Gibtecs. They will custom make them anyway you want.

Ok i will look into Gibtec for sure, if i dont have to go 20 over i wont for sure and it would be nice to be able to go that route. 10.5 is a bit more then what im looking for, this is more of a street car then an all out race car.

Give us a call, we keep the MMR/Manley brand in stock, we have used them to produce over 3000HP and offer many great options including no additional charge for custom bore sizes. They are available with a STD Chromoly pin, the 9310 upgrade or the MMR Gen X pin upgrade, we keep most compression ratios and bore sizes on the shelf. Let us know if we can help!

Compression = street car. It gives much better off boost performance. On E-85 10.5 is nothing. I run a set of custom CP's with Trend H13 tool steel pins and total seal steel rings. You can get any company to make you a custom set, the gibtecs are a nice option I just don't like when Ed has people lower the piston.

^^ What do you mean by lower the piston?

Move the wrist pin up which lowers the compression height of the piston. The entire piston sits a little lower in the bore.
Ed also likes a zero offset on the wrist pin so there's no confusion about which piston goes in which hole. Personally I prefer the offset to ensure there's no piston slap noise.

Lol but if it has piston slap it would drive me insane, I'd be tearing the motor down to fix. Race car or not :)

You'd be tearing down the motor anyways :D ahahaha. I predict another engine build from you in about 6-8months, just for shits and giggles

The beauty of the Gibtecs is you do not have to get it in just that one configuration. The standard design by Ed is just that. That is what he recommends but is not the end all. You can get the piston without the lower compression height. You can also get it with zero offset or offset pins. It can be configured anyway to your liking for no extra cost.

Exactly right. I ordered mine just exactly how I want them. You tell them what ever specs you want. If that's not your area of expertise then no worries Nick at Gibtec is super helpful and you just tell him in layman's terms what you're trying to do and he'll tell you how that piston should be spec'd and built and does it for you.

I agree but any company can do the same stuff. While I know gibtec is a good company if you want to have someone else do it there is nothing to worry about. I just don't see why people think gibtec is somehow superior to other companies. While I understand they may have a base understanding and a "off the shelf" custom spec you are not forced to use Gibtec for a custom mod motor piston.

They are a very solid choice though.

Correct pretty much any manufacture can do it. In fact I tried ordering Diamonds initially but their techs and customer service are so flippin rude I couldn't take it anymore. Started bringing back memories of my prior Diamond experiences and what d-bags they are.
So I called Gibtec and service was friendly and prompt. I was willing to pay more for the decent service and pleasantly surprised I got the pistons cheaper than I would have at Diamond.
