that's true, it takes YEARS of on time payments to build credit. Unfortunately ...

meh .. I would rather be no debt and a credit score in the 800s pretty much where I am now

I will later tonight.

All credit score is, I'm too greedy and impatient so I buy things I can't afford. What's crazy is banks think these people are the people to loan money to. Those that don't have money to begin with.

If you don't have debt you don't have a credit score. Where I want to be one day.

sometime it is more about cash flow. I would rather have cash available and pay minimal interest or no interest on a card or two and have cash in my bank and in my pocket.

I have a best buy card with 8002 dollars worth of credit available. (the 2 tells them that I can get more if I ask for it). They have a bunch of stuff on zero interest deals, electronics, appliances etc, the time to pay ranges anywhere from 6 months to 5 years. buy something, put it on the card, pay it off either early or on time, pay no interest build your credit.

Ashley furniture has the same kind of deal only my card there is for 10K 5-6 years zero interest with a monthly update to my credit score.

NOT having a credit score can affect a lot more than you appear to be aware of, Most insurance companies (auto and home) will give you a better rate when you have a higher credit score. no credit score will cost you. want to rent an apartment, get utilities, buy a cell phone contract? they will ALL check your credit score.

Why in the world do you need credit when you have money to buy things?

All a credit score tells you is that you have debt or had debt recently. I would much rather have 3 million in the bank with no debt than have 800 credit score.

we both win, the ones that lose are the ones that can't control their spending or those (like yourself) that don't take advantage of what is available to them.

Exactly! I have a $1,000 Sears gift card from my first credit card. Zero interest was paid. Now on a better card, I've flown internationally twice, and paid zero in international fees.

**** paying cash. I'll put a $0.50 card bar on credit without thinking. It gets paid off monthly so who cares?

That's the point. And if you read my other post it says how it can be done interest free. If you get a major card with cash back and pay it off monthly you can get your credit score up without paying interest as well. Getting along without a credit score is difficult at best when it comes to buying things like a house. Or a car

You can't get a credit score with zero debt. You had debt, then paid it off.

But his point is it's still debt. I'm not sure what the hell he's trying to prove, but holy shit dude. Yes it's debt. No we don't care. It's not that we don't have the money to pay for what we want upfront, but we're not all doing good enough to buy $20K+ cars and/or ANY houses with cash in full. Besides, that seems kinda silly when interest is so low and you can potentially make more than you'll pay in the market.

Paying it off monthly does not mean you are debt free. It means you are in debt every month.

Just like my employer is in debt to me until the next paycheck? Am I also in debt when paying cash for a service? I mean, I don't feed them a dollar for every step of progress that is made during a project, so I must be in debt at some point during the process, right?

What are you even trying to argue about?

You can't fix stupid...

I'm not arguing anything. I'm stating the banks get rich because people(who stay poor) choose to buy things they can't afford and you don't need a credit score to get a mortgage.

We ALL realize this. What are you even trying to prove anymore?

I'll take "being in debt" for a couple bucks on a credit card that I know I can pay off whenever, over depleting my accounts in act of some power move you seem to favor.

If your employer has to borrow money to do payroll, I'd get out fast!

You're missing his point. It's not that his employer has to borrow money for payroll, it's that on Monday at 12 noon, he may have already worked four hours but has yet to be compensated. So is that a debt on the employer's side?

THANK YOU captain obvious! wow dont' think we would have known this unless you pointed it out. I mean I, at least, feel so much more enlightened now that you have explained this to me. I think I will go have a beer to celebrate my new found knowledge

this entire post is bullshit. unmitigated bullshit.

banks only get rich if you pay interest. using other peoples money interest free will not make them rich.

and just how, oh wise one, does someone go about buying a house without a credit score? no bank in the world will lend someone the price of a car let alone a house without checking your credit and seeing a good score

Advising to never have debt is a really poor idea. Good luck saving up enough money to buy a house. While doing that, the money that you're getting 0% return on could be invested in an index fun yielding 5-7% annually, while carrying a 3% mortgage.
