I was on my way to work yesterday early in the morning and I was really late for work when my dumbass self decided that it was a good idea to go 30+ over in the palmetto (I live in Miami, Florida) which is a 55, since at that time there's not traffic specially on a Saturday morning in my Shelby. I got caught by a state trooper, he went to his car to do his stuff and then came out and told me that his printer is not working asked me if I live in the address on my license and then said that he'll see me soon and let me go. He didn't say that i'm going to receive the ticket my mail, but he did tell me that this is a $1k ticket. Do you guys think that I'm going to get the ticket by mail? I have been stopped before but never been in this situation. BTW my record is clean and I know that I got lucky that he didn't arrest me and impounded my Shelby.

Do you guys think I'm going to get nailed?

Thanks!

Hard to say man. I had a CHP tell me that anything over 100 and the cam automatically records it and they have a policy of no warnings on that.

On the other hand, I know people that have been let go under unusual circumstances; almost like the cop didn't want to say I'm letting you go but he was basically doing just that.

I wouldn't do anything until a ticket shows up.

i think I'd delete this and be prepared to get a lawyer

Excuse my ignorance but why delete? I don't think the cop is going to come here to see this post. Or they do?

Yeah I would say contact a traffic atty. and see what he can tell you. Good luck and Nice car btw.

That's what I'm thinking of doing tomorrow. And thanks!

I know and that's what it bugs me. I would think that in this situation they have to do something different. Some one at work told me that they put my prints on the ticket and that they cannot let me go like that. But again I don't know much because I haven't got a ticket like this before.

Thanks guys for your response!

I would just wait until you have the ticket in your hand, you will still have weeks before your court date to figure out the next move, but assuming the ticket shows up, I would definitely plan on getting a lawyer.

^^^ this. If he mails you a ticket it will be certified return reciept. Or he can show up at your house, but that would be a dick move. If no ticket comes in a week or so then forgettaboutit

it will simply be mailed to ur house via certified or registered mail. the E-Ticket printer is the only way they can give u a hard copy of ur ticket.

when the printer doesn't work he can't give u ur copy but he can surely mail it to u when he gets back to the troop and prints it which is what it sounded like he was gonna do

Thanks guys! I think I'm getting the ticket because when I check my license in the dmv website it says that I'm not eligible for driving school election. :(

Anything over 100 is a mandatory appearance before a traffic judge and potentially results in a 30 day suspension, 2 points, and a 1k fine IF convicted here in California. Just so there's no confusion.

Not sure what this "cam" policy is that you're referring to. The cameras in our vehicles are such crap, you can't even make out a license plate. They do not turn on at 100 mph.

Ok. One of my employees got picked off doing over 100 and thats what he said the CHPman told him. Why he couldn't give him a break. All their rides seem pretty new to me down in Socal.

What did he catch you at? How much higher than 85? $1K is a stiff fine for sure. Hope you can get it reduced. You said that your record is clean, so hopefully that will mean something.

Ok guys, the cop showed up at my house and waited for me to get home. He gave me the ticket and when I saw the fine I was a little relieved. It was $369.00 which is still a lot but way better than $1k. The one thing that worries me now is my insurance if it doesn't get dismissed which I don't think is going to happen. BTW he got me at 104.

Really surprised it's only that much. Did he tell you 104 or is that what the ticket actually says?

I know in a lot of places double the speed limit is a huge jump but you're just under that.

If you are presented a summons, hire a lawyer.

Counsel will guide you through what you need to do. I sat in court room in the backwoods of Virginia, anybody who was running at those kinds of speeds received the full measure of justice appropriate to their circumstances. Some just lost their licenses. I watch one lady who was accused on 105/65 go to jail for a year because of a 19 YO conviction for DUI, but a perfect record since.

If you get a lawyer, do exactly what they tell you do. Also get a lawyer who is in that traffic court on a regular basis.

BTW, were you polite, apologetic and honest to the officer?

If you can pay the fine and avoid court, do so. I sat in Virginia traffic court once and witnessed the judge enhance the penalty for several drivers,!raising the fine and suspending privileges. Your low fine is a good deal.

I strongly disagree. Do what others have suggested and find an traffic attorney who frequents the court where you've been directed to appear.

This could be pretty serious.
