It is amazing how much more you can get the rear to squat , by removing the front sway bar or just the end links .
I found a set of detachable end links from a 4x4 supply place for my car .
Takes like a minute to go from street to race and back again is the same .

Do you have a picture of that? Currently I don't have a sway bar at all but sometimes wish I had one cuz I can fell the body roll.

Yeah definitely going to play around with that.

Any update Malcolm? How's the suspension coming along? I have Lakewood 70/30's up front in a coil over setup with 14" 150lb spring (maybe 12"), no sway bar, stock springs on the rear and a Viking DA shock in the rear and it transfer the weight really well. I had a Gallardo pick on me on the freeway one time him thinking I was stock. Well when he honked it off, we did a 60 roll and after the highway fun we pulled off and chatted a bit. He said he knew I wasn't stock my front end came up and just pulled on him. Good times.

What part number is that? I was under the impression that Viking didn't make a rear coil over setup. Did you have to do some cutting?

They don't. I've sold a lot of Viking shocks and what I find is people just buy coil overs for other SN95 cars and make it fit. Custom setups.

Yeah my IRS is laying on the garage floor. Swapped in an SRA instead. Actually un-related to the traction issue. I just got sick of dealing with it and all the clearance problems and other headaches I've had with it over the years.
More recently it was trying to run 1" ID hoses for the new trunk mount and having zero clearance along with my 3" exhaust.

Every time I work on someone else's 03/04 with an SRA and see all the clearance and free space and easy of maintenance, larger tire clearances, less headaches etc. I always ask myself "what am I doing still struggling with that IRS?". So I figured what the hell, try something new.

I just did an autocrosss event this weekend and spoke with the owner of Viking Performance Shocks and they are now making a coil over setup for Cobras w/ IRS. The owner was a very down to earth guy and took a lot of time to answer my questions. Vikings are dual adjustable and rebuildable FWIW.

EDIT: Just saw you decided on the SRA. Still maybe worth checking out Viking! Hope your feeling better

Interesting. I'm actually a Viking dealer and have sold many of their shocks / coil overs. Had not heard about the 03/04 IRS coil overs officially, just rumors lol. I'll touch base with my rep and see how confirmed that is and if they have an ETA on those yet.

Sign me up for a pair if it's true.

I am no drag expert by any means but I have always been under the impression that you want a harder spring in the rear. The reason being that if you have a softer spring in the rear and the car squats you are using weight transfer energy to compress a spring, that energy is not being transferred through and down to the tire for extra force to the ground.

A harder rear spring would not compress as much and send that energy to the ground. I believe you do want a softer front setup so that the front will come up, giving you the transfer of energy.

I don't know if that is correct or not but logically that makes sense to me.
Also, since you have the SRA now you can think about roll centers (anti-squat).

This video is not really drag related but it is enlightening to think about the engineering. He also mentions that having a high percentage of anti-squat or even over 100% can be beneficial for drag cars.

I spoke directly to the person at Vi-King that's working on the 03/04 Cobra IRS coil overs. It's still in the design phase and after that needs to be tested. It'll be a few months out at minimum.

Thanks for getting back to me. Does he need a 700hp guinea pig by any chance? I'll test them out for him!

If they need a 900hp guinea pig I will help them out haha. In all seriousness I may interested in these. I have MM Coilovers up front but nothing out back. Would like a nice set of Coilovers for the back.

I am in the exact same boat with MM coils up front and traditional coil springs in the rear. I would like a rear coil over setup to save on weight and the adjustability offered by coil overs.

Okay. ...I've been watching to see what they come up with. I recently purchased mm with koni single adjustable, but I would definitely swap them out for a set of vikings

I just went through the same thing with my last car before selling. With lowering springs and zero weight transfer the car went 12.80 at 130mph...literally spinning 315 proxes DR's into 4th gear past 1/8 mile. Swapped to a big/little racestar setup with 275/50's (26x11.50), QA1 adjustable rears and disconnected front sway bar links...car went 11.70 @133, still spinning almost all the way through 3rd, but clearly better traction. Finally before woodward I put a brand new set of 275/60's on the rear and on the street (pretty hot day with warm road in a spot with tons of burnouts) I let the clutch out and goosed it. The car fully unloaded the front suspension and damn near pulled the front tires off the ground.

The only thing I'll say is that you lose a lot of the handling by doing this. However, leaving the front sway bar and just removing the end links then zip tying the front sway bar leaves you only a short 30 minutes of work to reconnect the end links, swap tires to regular setup and put a couple clicks in the shocks and your back to s good handling street car.

Adjustable rears and front with disconnected front sway bar will make night and day.
