It was my son’s week to be at his mom’s house. While he was there he was playing with Fire works, caught the house on fire and did $36k of damage. My ex wants me to cover half. The rest of the story is I caught him at my place a month earlier playing with smoke bombs. I took it all away and had a long talk with him. Only question is, am i legally responsible? It was an ugly divorce so there is no working with her.

That's what home owners insurance is for, plus on her visitation weeks she should watch your kid better. I'd tell her to pack sand ...
I'm not an attorney but I'd think anything the boy does while on her watch is on her dime.

I've got no worthwhile legal or insurance advice. Speaking from first hand experience, I can say with some degree of certainty your young fella will probably grow out of this about the time the fumes come into view (gas fumes and perfume), if not sooner.

Homeowners insurance should cover the damage less deductible. It was on her watch she is responsible.

It's her child, her home, and her time to parent. It might be half your DNA but no one has a responsibility to pay for her child's mistakes except her when she's the one who's supposed to watch him.

She is responsible for things at her home as you are at yours. Thats the golden rule of joint custody. Took my ex 18 years to learn that. Ask yourself this, if this happened at your home and you told your ex she should pay half, what would she say to you?

Hell no! I read a lot of MGTOW (men going their own way) stuff and this seems to be the mentality with an overwhelming amount of women. You have to ask yourself the following question: Would she pay if it was your house? I think you already know the answer.

Smoke damage is incredibly expensive.
Had a kitchen fire a while back, the damage from the smoke was a lot more than the damage from the fire.
oh really? Jesus, no wonder we had a huge security deposit to pay at the last apartment where Tanya roasted her hand, never thought about that.
