Hey so looking at this fox body notch 1988 for sale might grab it, my question is the guy just put a paxton supercharger 9pounds boost he said and re did the trans and such alumnium drive shaft kenny brown track kit. After putting the blower in he says it needs a tune for the air fuel ratio to be set. So can i just buy a aftermarket tuner and get it tuned? OR does the car need to go on a dyno?? Im not trying to make 1000hp just simple summer crusing with some goodies. And if i buy the car is it still fine to drive home without a tune?? Thanks need help asap

I wouldn't drive it home without a tune unless he also installed an FMU or something similar.
If you do but it id buy a bigger fuel pump, bigger injectors and MAg and then have the car tuned either using a chip or another way.

Hey i live in canada BC on a small island lol so not safe to drive home?
I wouldnt be afraid to drive it home as long as you stay out of the boost. It wont blow up if you drive it easy. Back in the day before computer tunes everyone just ran the following combo with safe results. Ditch the FMU and run 42lb injectors with matching mass-air, boost sensitive fuel pressure regulator on the rail, MSD 6-BTM boost retard set on 1 degree per lb of boost, colder plugs gapped to .035", 255 intank pump with a Vortech T-Rex external pump and initial timing set to 12 degrees. I am running a similar combo right now with no issues. Of course a computer tune is better because you know exaclty what the engine needs and can tune closer to the edge. You can buy a MegaSquirt or Tweecer that will interface with the factory computer but the custom tune on a dyno is probably better due to the ability to datalog all your sensors, fuel pressure and boost in real-time for the best tune. You cant buy an off the shelf Bama tune from American Muscle for a boosted car due to so many different combos, they just dont do it. Must be a Paxton Novi if its making 9psi, even with a modified impeller the old SN blowers are only good for around 7 psi or so safely and they arent efficient if you spin them faster to make more, it just makes more heat and wears them out faster. If I’m buying the car I’d drive completely out of boost and very carefully until I have a professional tuner go through it and datalog/tune on a dyno.
Might have a good deal or someone else’s headache.
