Passing emissions with offroad pipe

So my car is due for its first emissions test next year, and was wondering if it is possible to pass with an offroad pipe and o2 spacers. I know this one site where you can buy spacers with mini cats built in to the spacer to trick the rear o2's into thinking there are cats.

otherwise I would have to get a catted midpipe and run regular o2 spacers or a third option would be to get Kooks green x or h pipe but that would be real expensive, lol. Whats your guys' experience with this issue? I live in illinois so I only have to pass the OBDII test, there is no visual inspection.

Also another concern I have is that if I bring it to a test facility with the offroad pipe installed they would be able to tell just from the smell of the exhaust that there are no cats.

No cats, not passing ever. Get a factory mid pipe if you have stock manifolds. It’s not a big hassle to just swap it over once it’s time for emissions testing.

I've passed with long tube headers and no cats. The obd sees if your emissions equipment is working, not your actual emissions out of the exhaust

Yeah ive passed inspections with 2 different cars without cats, toughest part is the visual, first car was an 01 bullitt with o/r mac pro chamber, inspection people thought the pro chamber box was a cat i guess because they had all the mirrors and still passed me ( car did not throw a cat eff. code even without cats unless you really got on it. other car was an 03 mach 1 which my dyno tuner made me an emission tune that didn't throw any codes and sensors had normal readiness without cats, I did however run cat shells to pass the visal because i had an o/r x pipe with bassani mid lenths

On my 99 Z28, Speed Inc did the tune. Does Lund not set the rear O2s to ready? I’ve never seen a tune for an off road pipe where they weren’t set that way.

Im pretty sure the rear o2s are turned off. I'll have to check with them when i put in a ticket for an emissions tune.

For my Mustang, I have no clue what mine are set to. I’m the first town south of Chicago that doesn’t require an emissions test

I'm in the burbs of Chicago and am thinking the same thing. Looking to buy headers. I can't deside if I want to get the catted setup or deal with possible issues with the state. I'll have to talk to my tuner and see what he says

Neither. They plug in a scan tool to tour OBD2 and if it shows no codes and everything is ready, you pass.

As long as your tuner will tune the rear O2s to show ready, you’re good with no cats. Hell, my Bama tune on my v6 2011 passed emission with no cats.

Yes, but it can be tuned to show ready and not throw a code.

They would face huge fines by the EPA if they were to get caught. I've seen Shaun from AED post specifically on here about this subject before.

I just said it can be done...there’s a reason so many people have off road pipes and still pass emissions.

When purchased my car was AED tuned with an OR mid. Pass every year in TX but we just have the scan/visual tests. No sniff.

No CEL and no mil eliminators.
