As the new GT500 has been announced, there is bound to be used 2013/14s coming up for sale around summer. Here are a few things to look out for on these cars for potential buyers. This is not a complete list but I thought I would pass this along for the next set of owners getting into these cars.

Great video, one last thing I would say is pay attention for any metal tapping Sound at idle or around 1k rpms from the driver side of engine. It can happen when engine is hot or cold, make sure you hear the engine when it's cold and give it a good test drive.

What does the metallic tapping noise indicate? What is involved if a repair is needed?

SV
I truly don't know the fix to it, I myself changed all 32 lash adjusters on my 08 GT500 that made the noise from time to time and it still didn't fix it. My 2014 GT500 also made the noise but my 2013 GT500 never made a sound.

My best advice is when you go to look one over in person make sure you do a cold start up, drive to operating temp, shut it off and wait about 10 minutes and fire it back up. Listen closely to the driver side and passenger side fenders for any odd tapping sounds, it's really hit or miss on which ones do it.

Having said all that I don't think it means the engine is hurt, it more just a annoying sound.

I have been hearing about this ever since they first came out and have yet to see or hear of a 'fix' for it...unless someone knows differently, it does not appear to be an issue as of yet, just more of an annoyance and not all do it. mine does it so i stay in idle as little as possible and focus on the intermittent flapping noise i get in low gears, then row into higher gears and focus on the sound my supercharger and exhaust make and the world is good.

Exactly, I don't know of any fix and it doesn't seem to hurt the engine in anyway. It only happens at idle or very low RPMs. But with a loud exhaust you can't even hear it lol.

Thanks Guys!

I didn't know if it was a cyl head issue, valve train component, etc. I've heard the GT-500's older brother's 03-04 Cobra head tick and was afraid this was a similar concern. Seems like some valve train noise is normal but frustrating when you cant put your finger on exactly what it is.

Actually it made me think of the video the guy posted where he took his car to the dealer for an engine noise and had a camera which recorded the Service Technician driving pretty aggressive.

I've often thought about adding a 13-14 GT-500 convertible to the stable, even road tested a triple black one so this is good info to have!

I have definitely experienced the heat soak issue, anything that you can do to alleviate it ?

Just adding a good heat exchanger with twin fans makes a big difference. VMP/C&R/AFCO all make great units. You can also do the Kenne Bell bigun intercooler that goes under the supercharger.
