Found out the hard way that Livernois tune will not pass emissions

Just an FYI to anyone buying a tune from Livernois and running cat-less. Just because you have no CEL doesn't mean you're going to pass the OBDII emissions test, you will not. Livernois shuts those monitors off. The same luxuries offered through tunes via SCT software and HPTuners do not apply here.

Personally, I find the Livernois adverting misleading. We've been hearing about Off Road use for years on catless pipes. And most are accustomed to getting around that in their aftermarket tune. But, infact, the Livernois tune is for off-road use only too. Good luck finding that on their website, or have them warn you before letting you drop thousands on parts and that mini programmer.

If you live in any of the 33 states doing OBDII emissions testing, keep this in mind.

Ummmm, the only way to not have a CEL with off-road exhaust and a tune is to turn that stuff off... otherwise you need mil eliminators, non-foulers and stuff like that

Ask any tuner if they can get you through an OBDII check while running catless, the answer is yes. They adjust the parameters to prevent a fault from being thrown. Livernois chooses not to set their tunes this way to prevent legal liability, which is fine, just maybe tell people that rather than acting like not offering it is normal. Could have installed the same parts, went to a local HPTuners shop and not dealt with any of these inspection issues.

I'm almost 100% certain that VMP doesn't shut anything off that is emissions related.
I think they are one of the few that does this.

I wouldn't expect to pass emissions anywhere without cats. One look = instant failure.

No state that I know of does a visual and a OBD II check, but I'm only familiar with PA, DE, MD, NJ.

I think we do recently. Massachusetts.

FYI I specifically asked yesterday (MA) during my inspection and the inspector told me as long as no codes or lites or issues when they plug in the OBD they don’t care if you have a supercharger or aftermarket turbos and that they are “trained” to look for missing stuff on 6.0 diesels...whatever that is worth.

We have visual inspection here. But come on, it’s a gas station cashier doing the tests, they don’t know what the **** they’re looking at.

I'm glad to hear this. If I end up back in the Atlanta area I do not intend on changing my mid pipe just to get past a visual.

Hmmmm,....that's weird. Maybe you're right about that.
When I brought my truck in December, my buddy had to take photos of the front/rear and the speedometer. The door jambs as well.
They're supposed to put it up on the lift and take photos of the undercarriage as well. The person doing the inspections has to take a "selfie" if you will, at as well to send all the info along. He literally showed me the check list that they have to go by. It's a lot. lol

We don't turn off any emissions related items or MILs in our tunes.

If you want to pass emissions, get MIL eliminators or anti-foulers with our tunes.

There was no CEL present and the truck failed emissions. Livernois shut the rear O2 sensors off if I recall correctly. Not only do you need extenders, you have to run around on the stock tune for a while and then test.

Passing guess work on to the customer isnt the way to do it. No one at Livernois mentioned they were needed when calling in and ordering. What's your advice for the cars you supply tunes for that can't fit O2 extenders?

Now did you ever ask them about passing emissions? You cant totally blame livernois. If you never ask the questions and you assumed it was gonna passm then you are also to blame.

Let me begin by stating that Livernois is a well respected shop. I'm not going to bash them.

Now, on to your particular situation.

Since it is very illegal to bypass emissions on road going US vehicles, I wouldn't recommend to any client that they attempt to do so.

For my clients that only drive these vehicles offroad or out of country and don't want to have to look at a MIL constantly and don't have room to install eliminators:

Plug the existing rear bungs, weld new bungs in a close to original as possible location that allows you to install the eliminators. Have tuner reactivate O2 sensor ready monitors, etc.

Yeah, my buddy showed me the checklist that they have to go through. Photos of the front, the rear, the doorjambs, the speedometer of the vehicle. There are so many things that they have to go through now, it's silly. lol

They're supposed to put the vehicles on the lift and take photos as well. More than likely for safety and emissions.
