So I’ve decided to make this thread to track the progress of my vehicle. I’ve owned it for 3 years and don’t plan on getting rid of it ever, if I ever decide to get something else I’ll be keeping this. For the past 3 years I’ve owned it, it has been kept completely stock and that is all about to change soon.

Due to pump gas restrictions and no access to e85 within a 200 mile radius I’m going to be going with a VMP Gen 2R. Further down the road once I build the motor or buy a built short block i will upgrade blowers.

For now I plan on just putting everything together and enjoying it for awhile . I figure to go from 3 years of being stock, to Gen 2R Should be enough fun to last awhile lol.

Right on, congrats on deciding to pop her cherry. lol.

I myself bought a stock '08 and did the basic bolt ons and now I'm having my gen 2r installed in less than two weeks.

I can only get 91 down here so that sucks. No e85 around either and even though I contemplated meth injection I decided to just stay with pump gas for the time being.

Heh, small world...
I’m actually from Odessa, but I live out on the east coast now, going on almost 4 years. Lamesa has e85 btw, not sure if that’s a trip you want to make though.

Ok so I’m not sure if I wasted my money or not but I bought some Ford 3.73s, and I have been reading different things about them. Once I put the Gen 2R on would it be beneficial to run them or should I just keep the stock 3.31s?

Do the blower with your 3.31. If you feel you want a little more add the 3.73. I personally like the 3.73s on my setup. Got a buddy that has 4.10s on his car with a whipple and he loves them. Its all a matter of preference. In stock forum the 3.31 suck

Yeah I agree the 3.31 is so long and doesn’t give it that umph. I’ll try the Gen 2R with 3.31s for now .
I got another buddy that did the tvs swap with a killer chiller that had plan to do gears before the swap. Now that he has the tvs and a 2.5 pulley hes decided to stick with the 3.31s. Says hes has plenty of low end tq to make up for the gears. Its all a matter of preference. Let us know how it all goes

Know the feeling...took me almost seven years for my power mods (actually in progress). Did a few things before the power (in my sig). Also replaced my '07 damper/balancer boat anchor, prereq for blower upgrade. Take your time if you'd like or go for gold from the get go. Lots of folks here can help along the way.

Best of luck and happy modding!

All the research and people I’ve talked to has said this.
3.73s are fine and don't whine with a proper install, however, if you like going to the drag strip it doesn't really matter. I'm on my second set now after a failure, whisper quiet after the install.....one trip to the strip with several hard launches and they're whining like a banshee. Not much you can do about it.

Not sure if I will need a BAP for this setup, but I got a deal on a kenne bell 17v BAP so I figure mine as well use it.

....Due to pump gas restrictions....

What restrictions?

....and no access to e85 within a 200 mile radius....

I will address this later....

....I’m going to be going with a VMP Gen 2R....

Guys.... I bought my 2008 new in 2007 and have played around with different superchargers. Bought.... tuned..... (not happy).... sold..... Repeated this cycle more times than I care to think about.... maybe $10k to $15k worth... spent and wasted..... Try not to be tempted with the "next" generation supercharger hits the market. My advise is to spend the extra $$$ now and get the biggest, baddest blower out there. You'll never have to "upgrade" again. I did exactly this. As a tuner, I can say that the greater the supercharger volume, the more air it ingests... more hp to be made. I literally see it in the MAF transfer function as well as datalogs for all my different combos. And think about this >>

The typical blower redline is 18,000 rpms. The closer you get to this, the more efficiency you lose....

With my 2.3 TVS, pullied with a 2.50" and a 15 percent crank pulley at 6,000 engine rpms, the blower is spinning 19,500 rpms, exceeding redline. No more room for improvement. Highest boost datalogged was 19.4 lbs, highest load value recorded was 1.94 (great indicator of power made).

With my current 4.2 with the LARGEST blower pulley, 4.00" and the same 15 percent crank pulley at the same 6,000 rpms, the blower is spinning a mere 12,188 rpms. Plenty of room for improvement. Highest boost (to date) is 20.4 lbs, highest load was 2.32 (compare with prior setup) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, I achieved these numbers revving to 4,500 engine rpms and ONLY 43 degrees of throttle angle. Am I impressed? What to do think? So quit dinking around with a "small block" blower and go big and be done with it...! I'll never go back!

....I can only get 91 down here so that sucks. No e85 around either and even though I contemplated meth injection I decided to just stay with pump gas for the time being.

Who needs e85? Do you guys know all the drawbacks to running 85 percent alcohol in an engine not designed for it? They far outweigh the advantages that can be gotten another way without any of the drawbacks... Personally, I will not use this junk and subject my motor to a premature death. I'm working on something very big and looks very promising. More to come in the weeks and months ahead...

you sir.....must be the ONLY town in Texas that doesnt have .... 93....

I lived in Texas most of my life, east, central and west Texas... East Tx has only 93, West Tx has only 91. Further east is all 93 and west is all 91. The split happens somewhere around Abilene. Don't know why. Probably something to do with east and west coast distribution centers and different origins.... just a guess.

....should I just keep the stock 3.31s?

Depends on your intent.
Drag race? Calculate what ratio you need to cross the line at redline in 4th gear. You will need to know top speed to do this. So calculate based on your projected top speed.
Just dinking around on the streets? Lower gears will "feel" more acceleration. In all reality, it feels this way because you have to shift quicker. Bottom line: In a drag race with 3.31's and 3.73's, there is no improvement in E/T with either. So what does that say? It's all about purpose and feel...
