I have fallen in love with a new watch and am now obsessed with obtaining one.

I have seen some (none in person)

This one though, just won't stop yelling at me to buy one.

Like I said, new to the hobby. Still own my first watch (Nixon) but needs a repair, just got gifted a smart watch but I'm not a big fan.

Plans are to fix my Nixon for everyday and save for that Seiko for the dressier needs

It’s a dangerous hobby. You can buy your grail watch and in no time at all you will want another.

The reason I like Rolex is they are tough watches and hold their value very well. Plus I like to look at them.

"They look nice and they say Rolex and all, but they keep the worst time out of any watch I've owned."

Not saying this is fact, just something I've heard

They won't keep time like a G-Shock (digital quartz) or a brand like Citizen where it receives updates from the atomic clock nightly, but no automatic will keep time as well as those, and I doubt anyone cares since a nice automatic is purchased for so many other things rather than timekeeping. With Rolexes though, the general rule of thumb is.... Crown UP will make the watch gain time; crown DOWN will make the watch lose time. I have a stainless blackface Daytona that I'll put down a certain way if it's running fast or slow, but a few seconds here or there per day isn't going to hurt much. If it's 5 minutes fast, oh well.

Nicest watch I have ever bought, was for my son's graduation from college last spring.

D2 Pilot Titanium.

9k for a watch with a slightly dressed up ETA movement. Why do people buy these watches with so many better unique options out there.

Get a Zenith, grand Sieko, IWC, anything but a Rolex.

Rolex movements are in house movements.. Not an ETA. Their lower tier brand Tudor did use ETA movements but is now using an in house movement since ETA movements are not available as blanks anymore. One of the things that helped Rolex keep such high resale, they had an in house movement & tight control of distribution.

I’m not so sure you are a watch guy. You don’t have to like Rolex but at least pretend you know what you are talkin about. My dad is a WIS and has taught me a lot.

I've never owned one but a dentist turned attorney turned teacher that I had in high school had a few, gave his daughters the option of getting a Rolex or pay credit card debt as (college) graduation gift. Yea, +1 to -2 seconds per day for a rotor-wound mechanical watch it terrible. LOL.

That happens, I've sure done that a few times, at one point I lusted after a new White Explorer II, it arrived, put it on my wrist for 10 minutes, didn't like it and immediately traded it for another Sub. Somewhat costly mistake. Another that I absolutely had to have was a new Hulk Sub, I think I wore it for a total of 6 hours and traded it in. Purchased a new Sea Dweller about 9 years ago, had it for 6 months and traded it on a new 2-tone blue Sub. Received the Sub and really liked it but 2 months later I missed the Sea Dweller and purchased another new one. LOL.... My collection has somewhat normalized now.

Here's one thing about a fine watch, you drop $75k, $100k, $300k on a nice car and you are fortunate if you get to enjoy it a few hours a week. Wear a nice watch and you enjoy it constantly for the 10+ hours a day you wear it. Keep it for a few years and it will be worth what you paid for it or more in many cases. it's like you were able to enjoy it for free.

I could copy that color combo with some hobby shop supplies. LOL

My first Rolex just came through customs. White gold Datejust with a blue sunburst dial and jubilee bracelet. I've never owned a watch before aside from a fitbit. I'm a typical millennial in that sense.

I’m picking up what you’re putting down. However, for me personally...

If enjoyment were put on a 1 - 10 scale, with 10 being the most, driving a $300k car a few hours per week = 10. Easily. Probably 11. Wearing a $300k watch for any amount of time is <1

I have friends with vast, expensive watch collections and I can appreciate what they are and why people are in to them. They just don’t tickle my fancy for some reason.

This thread is very strange to me, I think watches are nice, however it appears some of you need mental help. Watches are not a high priory in life when you look at whats going on in the USA and the world. The day will come when you will realize things won't make you happy for long.
