You seem to be sat up if you decide to get out. You've put 7 years into it so far and in 13 more years you could get retirement pay for the rest of your life. I understand being away from your family for months at a time. I deployed from Oct 2012 - March 2013, Sept 2014 - March 2015 then went to Korea for a year from Oct 2015 to Oct 2016. That sucked, out of like 4-5 years I was away from my family for half of it. Hope you figure out what you want to do, good luck.

I spent 26 in the Coast Guard. Retired in 01, recalled to active duty after 9/11 in 02, re-retired in 05.

I love being home, but I still miss being a sailor.

I've been in 24 years, made MCPO in 16 years, cost me a marriage. I wish I would have spent more time with my kids. If you're finiacally secure, I say roll. There is a lot of contractor jobs that will hold you over until federal employment is an option, if you choose that. 30 years old is the sweat spot in life, take advantage.
Bravo. Making 9 in 16 years is significant.

Personally, I went Active Duty to Reserve.

It's a totally different animal to get used to and you learn a great deal of patience when making the switch lol

It's generally great though. I do a lot of contract type / project work on the civilian side. If I get bored between projects I generally get on a deployment or some sort of Active Duty orders to fill the time. I can also transfer or work with other units in different geographical areas when I'm out of town.

Though my experience is with the Army so it very well could be completely different.

I got out at 10 years. I couldn't advance and I'm pretty sure I'd be divorced if I hadn't. My last calendar year in I spent 290 days at sea. And the boat was set to deploy again 3 months after we got back. I had no interest in watching my kids grow up through pictures. Sure, I miss some aspects of the Navy. But I've enjoyed going home every day even more. I guess I was lucky in that I had a job 2 weeks after I got out due to my NEC. And I'll have my masters by the end of this year. So the civilian life has been good to me.

FlahDah man.
Did just short of 32 years.

Other than a beat up body and a couple exes i would do it all over and maybe get out at 20.
My career field made up for a lot of the things I missed. What is amazing is my older kids tell me they felt the sacrifice by all of us was for this nation and are proud if my work.
My younger kids seen it from a different perspective. While I missed my my son's birth while in iraq we are inseparable. My daughter was born in Oman when I had duty hunting bad guys from the US Embassy.

If you have a marketable skill, then I say get out since the money isn’t a issue.
I just finished 20 years in January, and was able to roll right into a job in my field. The retirement pay is nice, and free healthcare for life is definitely a plus, but not worth not being there for the family.
