..... I'd like a tire mounting machine. I absolutely hate taking wheels somewhere to have tires mounted--the kid getting paid $10/hr doesn't give a crap what scratches he puts on the wheels no matter what shop I visit.

You want good tire service? Go to a local place with good, modern equipment, then give at least $10 each to guy behind counter writing you up AND also to the guy doing the tire work. I cannot believe the difference in treatment once I started throwing some money at these guys.

And my tool wish list is for all the stuff necessary to set up 8.8 rear end, so I can fix my howl.

Eastwood has a $1000 tire machine. It’s on my list of tools to get. Wonder how good it is. The combo with balancer is $2000. If I do a couple side jobs it could pay for itself. That’s what I keep telling the wife

I dunno if they do anything on those but they did some pretty big black friday sales on their fender rollers, might be worth checking on

fwiw I've seen quite a few of those machines **** some shit up as well.

Nothing works as well as experience, imo. I only have high end wheels mounted at one place, and never had an issue. Bossman there knows if an issue arises, he'll take care of it.

I drive half an hour to a shop to do mine. I probably pass 50 other shops on the way to that one.

Surprisingly, I've had good luck at the local Walmart doing tire mounts and balance (I never bring them the vehicles, just the wheels and tires). The secret is to give the tech a tip. I bring used oil back there, so the guys are typically familiar with me.

This is good advice anywhere you go on a regular basis that you'll get the same techs. We have a small mom and pop ATV shop we use in NC and we always go in through the back and cut through the service area. We stop and BS with the 2 techs every time and just slip em a $20 here and there. It's more than paid for itself.

It's funny how this never occurs to people who bitch about service.

Works really well with hotel maids as well when you have a multi-day stay. Put a 10 or 20 on the table the first morning with a little note about extra coffee, water, towels, etc and you get more than you can handle the rest of your stay.

A transmission jack. Not a tall one you use with a car on a lift but one I can use at home in the garage.

A lift. I have a pretty massive tool box and collection, but no lift. Shop has 15' ceilings too.

16mm Crow Foot wrench. I have two sets of metric crows foot wrenches and neither includes a 16mm, which is the only one I have ever needed. LOL. Amazon here I come.

Every time I think I have every hand tool, I find myself going to the store.

That's my next purchase. The pinion shim tool is really really nice to have.

I hear you, and I understand...but I just cannot bring myself to shell out money up-front. I want someone to do their job correctly without extra incentive. If someone goes out of their way to treat me well and do a good job, I'm happy to provide them with a tip. But, I just cannot seem to bring myself to give money up-front in hopes someone will do their job correctly.

Well, I think your chances of exceptional service are greatly reduced using your method. But to each his own. Good luck!

It certainly takes more time to find the right people, but it has worked for me over the years.
