Has anyone completed a 5.4 build w/ C heads and a Coyote intake(using the adapter plates)? If yes, what were your dyno numbers? I'm interested in building one for my DD. Nothing crazy. Just something fun back and forth to work and that can get out of its own way. I've seen the 5.4 builds with the Boss intakes and those are quite respectable. Just curious as to whether the coyote intake is any better or not.

Sidebar: If the coyote is better, if one were to use the Boss intake with the runner spacers (effectively longer runners) and the upper plenum spacer (effectively more volume), would it out perform the coyote? Has anyone even done this? I would venture to guess that some of our Aussie brethren have.

I've asked myself the same question OP. Ultimately I looked at the dyno graphs from coyote cars comparing the same manifolds you mention. If you aren't running cams for a high revving NA motor then Id stick with a stock coyote manifold. If you are, then id go with the Boss. Its all dictated on the runner length. Its all about average power over peak power for me. Especially if its a DD.

Did you complete one of these builds?

No I haven't. But the priciples are the same for a 4.6. I have an aussie manifold and am.looking for a dohc 5.4 tho. What cams are you using?

I have race/nitrous cams for the 5.8 in my signature. But for my 5.4, i'm simply in the planning phase right now. I've got a Navi block sitting around. I'm tentatively planning to use aviator heads and cams. Want to try to keep it as close to stock and all FoMoCo parts as possible. What are your thoughts on my sidebar question? Do you think the runner spacers and plenum spacer would be enough to make up the difference? Or would it be superior to the coyote with the spacers?

I don't think it would be worth it to do the boss over the stock coyote manifold. Your midrange would suffer with the boss. You aren't revving that 5.4 high enough to take advantage of a short runner intake.

I need to have my block sent off and checked before I start playing. @Eatonualive281 For the sake of "science", if you want it, you can have it...if you let me drive it one time ;) You'll probably be able to put it all together long before me.

Btw if you use the stock coyote intake then the alt will have to be relocated. I think mmr sells a bracket to relocate it to where the ac compressor is. That's why I asked. The Boss is high enough to clear the alternator iirc.

I meant that you can have my navi block...and then you can go through the pain and cost of building it. Then you can dyno it with the two different intakes. And then I'll build whichever one performs better for myself.

HAHAHA. How kind of you! I just finished up putting a Mach 1 back together! If i didnt plan on selling it, I would have gone with a stock Navigator motor and my aussie manifold. Dang it!

I had another thought... What about the voodoo intake? Yes, you lose control of the IMRCs, but would the increase in cubic inches be enough to overcome the assumed torque loss from said loss of control? Just another fun thought.
