Fuel System Cleaner Recommendations?

Looking at some fuel system cleaners for both the DD and the ponies. The Mustangs seem to sit quite a bit these days, but not full on storage for Sta-Bil I don’t think.

Tons on the market, just checking to see who likes what.

Techron Complete and Seafoam and the two best for just pour and go IMO and if your worried about storage or just moisture in the fuel being and issue, sta-bil is actually not that great, ethanol shield works significantly better at dealing with moisture in the tank from sitting

I like the Lucas Deep Clean Fuel System Cleaner.

I think it's all a gimmick, probably just octane booster, to make your car run better while its in the tank. I can't say I've ever experience any prolonged benefits from pouring anything into the tank.

Sea Foam through a PCV hose, now your actually doing something, when it looks like a diesel and you smoke the whole neighborhood out. Gotta be careful to not let your car stall, and/or hydro lock your shit though.

Techron for off the shelf stuff, it does work but make sure you get the concentrate. MM oil works pretty well too though I’ve always added more than recommended. Then there’s BG44, you may have to order it however it cleans the best of any product I’ve found for fuel systems...many techs swear by it and it has cleaned out many a varnished tank and gummed injectors for me.

I still have a few bottles of Techron from a few years ago on the shelf. I'll have to see if they have expirations.

Ethanol shield sounds like a good way to go as well.

I keep both Mustangs full for tank moistute, but short trips every few weekends.does little to burn off the old fuel unless I really beat on them.

Never used a fuel system cleaner in my life. Never saw a need for one as long as I was buying top tier gas and not letting my car sit for months at a time.

However I am contemplating using some type of fuel system cleaner on the wife's Ecoboost. Since it's DI I hear there's a possibility of soot build up on the top side of the intake valves. I'm seriously contemplating a purchase of some Sea Foam and then finding a vacuum line for the intake I can use to suck the Sea Foam into the intake and possibly clean up those intake valves.

Wont help because the build up is on the top of the valves were nothing will get there to clean it except a manual cleaning with walnut media. Suppose-ably running good gas as well a catch can and quality oil (changed regularly) will help keep the deposits down but nothing will actually clean them other then manually doing it.

What about an E30 tune? The alcohol should help clean over time I would think

E30 will help the injectors stay cleaner (which are also a known point of issues with the Ecoboost motors, they gum up and cause that cylinder to go lean and the others run rich to compensate and not throws codes until it goes boom, Focus ST) but still nothing actually gets to the top side of the valves so it doesnt help just like a fuel system cleaner doesnt help, the fuel isnt actually hitting were the build is gathering which is why the build up is gathering lol. This is reason why a lot of manufactures are switching to both DI and PI to give you the best of both worlds and clean valves

Another vote for SeaFoam. I use it in everything - cars, mowers, RTV, etc.

on the EB motors you shouldn't use fuel cleaners, you can damage the turbo. Seafoam should not be used in EB motors. ONLY way to keep the motor clean is a dual valve catch can system. Then drain it at every fuel up. You will be amazed at the shit it catches.

I understand that any type of cleaner mixed with the fuel will have virtually no impact on the valves because of the DI.

That will work. I believe they were thinking of pouring it in the tank.

I use Seafoam as well.

It will work fine that way, but I would be very cautious about adding it under say 2k rpms or so. GM does the exact same thing using the Techron concentrate, and it does work. Run it up while adding slowly and consistently, allow it to saturate the valves and once done shut the engine off to let it soak. Restart after brief cooldown and take it for a drive and put it under load to blow the excess off the valves and out the exhaust.
