Cable rates in this area are at a record high. They just went up again so we decided to cancel it. The selection and service does not match the monthly payment.

We are trying netflix and hulu live. Is there a media box that can stream everything? I am very un educated in this area.

A huge factor in our decision to cut cable was that charter is now attempting to control what and how we stream content. I have a Chromecast, but when charter required all internet subscribers to upgrade to a new modem and router to be able to recieve the new speeds in this area, guess what...they block the chromecast from being able to communicate with the network, rendering your chromecast useless.

So...looking for a box that can stream netflix and hulu live. Do those roku things do that?

I did try prime, not too excited with, the content selection. I usually activate it when ordering amazing stuff, then end up cancelling it. It seems to have the same content it did a year ago. With hulu live...i get same as cable and the big movie content is updated monthly.

I use a Roku box to stream netflix & hulu. Works great, have one in every room. Can listen to pandora on it, surf youtube, & has many more chanels to chose from. I got rid of my cable about 8 years ago. Never went back. Internet is expensive as it is.

My concern is, if charter can block chromecast in my area....couldnt they block roku or firestick? Why wouldnt they? Why would they only block chromecast?

Also I guarantee they cant block Roku and Firestick.. because that would put a block on entire Roku TV's, and Fire TV's, and that would then cut into the selling of TVs from multiple manufacturers

I have a hard time believing they can prevent you from using your own modem/router. I would imagine you're being charged a rental fee. I just told Brighthouse/Spectrum I didnt want their shit and bought my own.

We use a Roku box - look into that and see what they support. I know we can get Sling, Netflix, Amazon Prime but not sure about hulu.

Ya roku should work I would imagine. We have a tv with roku built in and we have Netflix and sling tv. My sister has an Amazon firestick and is able to use Hulu live with no issues.

There are alot of different streaming channels you can get with Roku or the Firestick. I'm not as familiar with how Chromecast works but I'm sure you can use it too.

According to Google chromecast tech support, who is fantastic btw, said its something in their new routers. I was on the phone with Google for quite a while, she called charter on 3way and asked them to disable the block and they refused. I can go back to a slower speed router and be able to use the chromecast. The google tech chic was cool as hell. Said more and more areas are being affected with chromecast block. She explained its all about the net neutrality crap we've been hearing about. I have to use charter for internet, there are no other viable options.

Its provided by charter. They sent it to us saying only their routers will allow the top speeds.

Google search. Chromecast blocked by charter spectrum. Enjoy.

We cut the cord almost 2 years ago and couldn't be happier. Prices were becoming obscene.

We have Fire TV for our main t.v. and Fire Sticks for our others. We have Prime and subscriptions to Netflix and Hulu. Throw in the Terrarium app and you have everything the other three do not cover.

Just be prepared for the breakup calls from your cable provider as they're worse than breaking up with a crazy girlfriend. I swear Liz from Spectrum was so desperate for my business I almost had her sending me nudes.

I have 200 now. Which is great. With my old router, i was getting about 60. If you pay the $5 a month for "new" upgraded router, you get 200. Using your own router will get you slower speeds. They force you into this. Its bullshit

Yes, the Roku devices support Hulu Live. We have Hulu Live and Amazon Video on a Roku Premier Plus in the living room and a regular Roku stick upstairs in the game room (I'm lying to myself, it's the toddler's play room now).
