Here's a simple way of determining where a Northerner is from:

1) Are they angry?
If Yes - Likely New England, excluding Maine

2) If they drop the f-bomb, does is end with "ACK" or "OCK?"
  • ACK = Boston
  • OCK = NY
3) Does everything they say end with an upward inflection, like a question?
If Yes - Great Lakes Region

4) Do they seem like a lost Canadian?
Maine. Definitely Maine.

5) Can they drive decently?
If no, most likely Rhode Island

6) If you yell out "screw the Red Sox," do they throw a glass bottle at you?
Yes - Masshole / NE CT
No - NY / SW CT

7) If you yell out "STOP. THIS IS THE SANDWICH POLICE!"
If they drop everything and lay on the ground, definitely Cape area

8) If they face is planted firmly on DeBlasio's ass:
Definitely a New Yoh'kah

Being angry and swearing too much is a built-in requirement for Massholes.

Oh and to stay on topic, I'll have 2 chicken quesadillas with extra sauce and a cheesy gordita crunch. Thanks.

You may as well be in Cuba in some parts of South Florida. On the other hand, most English speakers should know enough Spanish to order. I know it's not the point. Just saying. I can count to 100 and know basic phrases like esta todo at the end of my order.

I still question what happened before the filming started, as I do with every "going viral" video. Perhaps the worker doesn't speak/understand English, but I don't believe that being she was fired. Perhaps the customer pulled up, was greeted in Spanish, and said something insulting. At that point the worker thought, "**** this, I'm not speaking English with her, I'm playing stupid."

A privately owned business, that's fine.
Dang, you got a good point.. i could totally see that happening!

...but this goes back to the gay cake issue where SVTP seemed to side with the baker, meaning someone shouldn't have to do something they don't want.

Some mom and pop mexican place...it's their call. They could possibly make more money if they had people working the counter, but perhaps maybe also more problems. Some whiny white girl complaining her tacos are not the way the likes...GTFO, that old mexican lady has made them the same for 30 years, she's not changing for you.

But we're sort of talking apples to oranges. You're talking phone lines, like some local bank that services 50K customers, has 3 brand locations, a staff of 100+ and a phone line. I'm talking a mexican grocery store that has a restaurant inside as well. If you can't figure out the basics to eat/shop there, that's your problem. I've been to like 25 countries and never had a problem not speaking the native language.

Yes, which goes back to what I said. I wouldn't be surprised if somehow the customer pissed off the cashier before she started filming. I fully believe she knows at least basic English, but didn't want to use it.

Not the same thing at all. For one, this worker doesn't own this taco bell. There is nothing to indicate this taco bell has a policy of only speaking Spanish. Therefore, the baker comparison makes no sense.

Two, even if the customer was rude to the employee, still doesn't give them the right to refuse service. Anyone who has worked in a position that deals with the public has been treated poorly at one time or another. Doesn't mean you get to ignore that customer. If the customer was rude, get your manager involved.

Not sure why you are defending this person.

This is not cool and shouldn't fly anywhere.

But, the entire argument being private vs. franchised/corporate, not the same thing.

Taco bell is VERY different than "Jack's Pancake house" where they can make up their own rules.

This is America. If you migrate to a new country, you need to learn the most common language spoke (SVTP folks, please don't try to debunk this and try to convince me with a statistic that English is not the most common language, I won't really care) and take in the customs here. If I moved to another country, I would do my utmost to learn the native language of that country.

I agree. There is a fine line between being accepting of other cultures and virtue-signaling for SJW points.

Believe it or not, America has never claimed any one language as being the official spoken language of the States. It has been brought up and knocked down over the past two centuries though.

However, English is accepted as the "common" language.

Welcome to the game of politics.

Of course, I understand that.

The "common" language is english, however. Not the official as there is no true language designation.

Politics or not, learn the common language of the country you migrate to.

I never understood why restaurants always put the most English-challenged people on the drivethu in the first place. It was bad enough 10 years ago in a lily white Kansas suburb when my "sausage mcmuffin and a diet coke" turned into "thoth mahfeeng dieh coe" but to not even speak English at all? What dumb **** manager puts the employee in that situation?
