This is a good one. Let me expand upon this. I'll break it down in layman's terms so keep that in mind.

The whole concept that one cannot go back in time, is based on the laws of thermodynamics.

The first law says, basically, that the total amount of energy in our universe is constant. You can't create energy and you can't destroy it. You can only change the form of the existing energy.

The second law states that chaos in the universe only increases and never decreases. This means that over time, the energy in the universe becomes more and more disorganized as a whole. We can maintain or reverse this chaos in small systems by adding energy from other systems.

To go back in time, one would have to reverse the chaos of the entire universe to a previous state. This would require energy that doesn't exist to do the "work" of restoring the energy state of the universe to that previous state of organization.

Since we can't create the non-existing energy to put the universe back to a previous state (see that first law), we can't go back in time.

My avatar is a plague doctor. The doctors that were paid very handsomely by the government when the black death was an epidemic. They had very little medical understanding or training, more so con artists of that era.

They thought demons were what caused the plague, so they used a mask to cover their face, stuffed the nose with herbs to prevent the demons accessing them. Wore robes head to toe, with gloves and very tall boots.

Black plague was actually caused by fleas / rats. And the robes / mask / herbs prevented the fleas getting access to the doctors and infecting them.
