Got my firewall adjuster installed---have it adjusted all the way in for slack on cable, I hooked up cable to quadrant and then went to hook up to the fork but cable is now too short. The adjuster all the way in puts the cable flange closer to the firewall than the stock set up. What gives? This is the oem cable, and i have it installed correctly on the quadrant. I see from some old threads this has been a problem but never a solution other than buying an adjustable cable. Doesnt make sense that cable is now shorter?

your quadrant might have multiple spots to attach the cable check that you're in the one that gives you the most cable

Dumb question....You removed the plastic piece and the rubber bushing from the cable right?

Yes thats all removed, the flat plastic flange is up against the adjuster and this is the oem quadrant, so I think there is only one spot for the cable end.

doesn't the cable have a jam nut on the clutch fork side? maybe I've never seen a stock cable, might have always had an adjustable rod thing

here's the best I could find on my phone.
I remember I had to cut off a portion of the plastic piece on the cable when I installed the adjuster.

If it's a stock cable it doesn't have the adjustment nut on the clutch side. Only the aftermarket cables have that. And most people aren't fans of those cables.

Are you trying to use the firewall adjuster with a stock quadrant? If so, why? If it is the stock quadrant it might be in the fully tightened position which I could see causing an issue with getting everything hooked up.

Well I think I got it.

I Had checked for any binding in the cable and rechecked the the cable going into the quadrant, but couldnt find any problems-------So I just got under the car again and grabbed a hold of the cable and push it in and out a few times and then I pushed it in and gave it a hard yank out (two times) something gave and I ended up with the slack that was needed, I hooked it up and then got back under the dash to check the cable and quadrant---the cable was still hooked up and the quadrant looks like it changed position but look intact and nothing broken. It gave me the slack I needed. I have about 1" free play in the peddle before I make the adjustment. Must have been something to do with the the position of the quadrant. Going to adjust and try it out in the next couple days. I will get back with a report on this.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I'm still curious as to why you're using a firewall adjuster with a stock quadrant. You shouldn't need the adjuster.

Because I felt my clutch was engaging and disengaging too close to the floor and maybe that was causing some of the notchy shifting, I wanted more adjustability. And most everyone suggest staying with the OEM cable and didnt feel a need to change quadrants at this time. Havent tried it out yet still up on jack stands replacing brakes with Stop Tech cyro slotted rotters (not drilled) and braided brake lines and sway bar links.

I think whatever adjustment you put into the cable the quadrant is going to take out of it. It's just how it's designed. I've never heard of anyone going that route, but maybe it'll work.

You are probably right, I have read many reviews and post and they all say to install a quadrant with the adjuster. I will probably end up doing the quadrant although i have read that it makes a difference which one to use? They seem to be a pain to install, just getting my cable unhooked was difficult, if I install a new quadrant it seems removing the seat would really make it easier? With all this being said I cant see how the stock quadrant will keep taking the adjustment out of it unless I keep pulling up on the clutch pedal?

I've had Steeda, Maximim Motorsports, and UPR. They all work the same. Some have more than one hook to attach the cable. I've also tried the speed release which I really don't think made much of a difference. The biggest thing I can think of is making sure the quadrant is aligned to the cable. MM includes washers just for that purpose.

Depending on how big and how flexible you are pulling the seat might be worth it. If I move the seat all the way back I can just get in there. Though it is a tight fit.

I got the MM kit along with the clutch pedal height adjust.
The pedal sits nice and low; so I just stab at the clutch...very nice.

Yeah that is one thing that bugs me, that long peddle throw but then it only completely releases not until the peddle is almost to the floor. Is the height adjuster used by many here?
