SVT brain trust, I need your help. About to embark on building my lower. Have 12 with aluminum block and spray on liners. What do I need to know about sleeving block? Darton iron sleeves OK? Can someone with experience sleeving these weigh in? Thanks.

Jason Texeria had a post about this as I believe he did this. (1320 Junkie)

No reason you can't open it up to 5.8 bore diameter while you're at it. That's what I will probably do with my old block should I decide to do something with it. I just got a new 5.8 bare block when I built my short block.

Will I have to do anything to heads if I go this route?

No. The 13-14 had a small water port between the exhaust valves, but your block wouldn't have provision for it anyway. The 5.8 block is drilled for it, but the hole terminates at the head with my 2012 heads. I understand you can have the heads drilled for that passage, but I didn't see a need for it.

Thanks. Mind if I ping you with Qs if they come up?

I also have the same setup, 2011 heads on a 5.8 and no issues. Just be sure to use the 5.8 specific head gaskets.

I swapped my 5.4 out for a JDM built 5.8, they were great to work with through the whole process. Can’t go wrong with them. You’re going to spend a lot more money going this route compared to just sleeving your existing block. I wanted to keep the stocker as a spare, though.

Thanks, saw your thread on building your motor. Sweet build. Did you do cams? Running e85?

No, E85 unfortunately still isn’t available in my area....given up all hope at this point. Have a return fuel system installed, though, so if it ever shows up it’s just a matter of dropping a new hat/pumps in. I’m going Gen3 TVS this winter, so will do an MS109 big boost tune for track days this go around.

I did JDM SS cams. They make great power, sound good, and driveability is not bad at all in my opinion. If I did a lot of city driving or this was more of a daily driver I think there would be better choices, though.
