This is the Ford Explorer ST, caught testing in Colorado, and with barely any camo.

The Explorer will get its first comprehensive redesign in nearly a decade, likely for the ’20 model year. It will ride on a new platform that is flexible enough for front, rear or all-wheel-drive configurations. There is the definite possibility the Explorer could even go rear-wheel drive.

Just as the Edge gained an ST model for 2019, the Explorer will do the same with a 2.7L high-output EcoBoost V6, putting out at least as much power as the 335hp variant in the Edge—although a more powerful 3.5L EcoBoost may be likely. The Explorer ST will also add more aggressive styling and tuning, as seen in these images.

Expect to see the all-new Ford Explorer ST in the following months.

The existing Sport has the 3.5, so I can't imagine they would go down in engine size with the ST. Hell, how cool would it be if there was a Coyote under the hood!! I would seriously consider it in a few years if they were to put a 5.0L and 10spd in it.

The 2.7 is more potent than you think. Needs a 5.0 though so we can vmp all the things.

If Ford did that, I’d forget the Rubicon. With enough speed, I can climb anything.....once.

Yea, hopefully it has a 5.0, or at the very least a 3.5L

5.0L means I swap the wifes truck back over to a Ford.

What a joke. Will it be slower than the Sport version of the Explorer just like the Edge ST vs Edge sport was?

Edge ST is like a $47k car, at least the ones I looked at on cars.com.

5.0 with the 10 speed in a RWD with 4X4 config and have the option for an AWD version like the 06-10 Explorers.

3.5 ecoboost will suffice too but its nice to have options.
