5 years is another key factor here. It may have a ton of miles on it but it has not seen alot of time or cold starts. Try that shit in a Canadian winter and call me at 500,000.

Friend sent this to me today. She got a grill guard for the new whip. If I ever see her, I'll ask how many miles she's at now.
That's pretty cool. I have totally changed my mind on newer kias and hyundais. I got a 2013 optima sxl as a lease and beat the dog crap outa that car and all it wanted was nothing but gas. Even had to drive over a curb to avoid an accident on winter. Last week me and the wife went to look at the new telluride and man they are nice. We traded her expolorer limited in real quick lol

What year and model is your mom's Hyundai?
2013 Elantra with 173,XXX miles. Assembled 4/28/2012 in Ulsan, Korea. Bought new 6/09/2012. Still on original brakes, shocks/struts, and serpentine belt. Only replaced one battery, one set of spark plugs, one set of windshield wipers, and a few sets of tires. It has and continues to serve its' purpose as a daily driver. I am very pleased with it.

No car is going a million miles without spending significant time in the shop for repairs. There are parts on them that simply can't make it that long and as time goes on regular maintenance will become more and more frequent. She probably paid more in repairs over that time period than the cost of a new car so her free Elantra from Hyundai likely wasn't all that free.
I'm not totally upon mileage reimbursement for business use of vehicles but isn't the rate something like 54 cents a mile? That means she's writing off roughly $100,000 a year.

Wife got an email from Hyundai about a free $50 gift card if we took one out for a test drive.
We got to talking to the sales guy, I guess the dad of the company kicked the bucket and the son who took over wanted to start building better cars. They put a ton of money into engineering/reliability. It's really starting to show.

Working around them a lot and seeing their inner structure and build quality, they really aren't bad cars at all. I think they fit right in with the other major brands but they just lack the portfolio and experience the other manufacturers have because they have been around so long. We will start to see Hyundai/Kia offering even more exciting products and eventually be considered a top leading manufacturer in the same regard Honda and Toyota did.
