I am going to apologize for a long post... but it may be worth the read for some.

I am not a brand loyalist, but I am starting to think SIG is a pretty damn good company. I had some amazing service to tell you about, but first, a little background.

I bought one of the very first SIG 516 Patrol rifles they sold. I started doing training drills and spent thousands of rounds a month. Over the years, the system saw heavy use, including the upper running thousands of rounds of auto fire and simulated auto fire. Within less than 7 years, the system saw over 30,000 rounds. I stopped counting after awhile.

With all those rounds fired, the gun was 100% reliable. I never had a single failure due to anything but lack of cleaning and/or lube. It proved to be a true "go to war" rifle that I knew I could rely on in life or death situations.

A few weeks ago, within 100 or so round, my groups went from 1.5 MOA to 5 MOA. I also had a soft primer strike. I took the weapon apart to clean it to see if that would help. I found the the original firing pin tip was mushrooming. Also, the rifling in the barrel was heavily worn.

I called SIG to setup a service to have a new barrel installed. Sadly, they only made gen 1 barrels and uppers for a very, very brief time and they had no replacement parts.

After a long convo about my attachment and history with the rifle, the customer service rep went to the engineers and machinists. They called me back (unexpectedly) and helped make magic happen.

Normally, a replacement barrel would have been about $300+ from SIG. For $400, they covered round-trip shipping, machined my original upper to fit the latest generation barrel and piston system, upgraded me to the latest adjustable gas block, replaced all my springs everywhere (except the trigger group, which is aftermarket), replaced my firing pin, and did a complete clean and lube.

I am completely blown away. The turn-around time was only 8 days and I now have a fantastic, one of a kind SIG manufactured and customize Gen 1 516 Patrol.

Sorry for the really crappy pics... but I really wanted to share.

Wow...now that's service!
My armalite AR got a Sig romeo 5 for Christmas lol. And my 229 has many many rounds through her. (Not even a little bit close to 30k) but she is as reliable as ever

My of my! That Desert Eagle is one fine looking weapon. Let us know how it shoots, assuming you're going to take it to a range soon.

Thanks, I was bored tonight and pulled some stuff out of the safe to reorganize it. Aside my CZ Scorpion and FAL those three rifles are probably my favorite to shoot out everything I own.

I only have one Garand at this time sadly. The other rifle is my M1A scout. My Garand is a CMP special field grade ( some grade cmp wound up creating ) the serial # puts it in September to October of 1942. It’s a blast to shoot and I’m going to try to get another Garand this upcoming year hopefully. Just bought a house so I’ve pumped my brakes on spending money on guns for a bit haha.

Grabbed a Legion 229 last night to match my 226 Legion. Got it for a song but I can’t decide whether I’m holding on to her or not.
