But it came like that from the factory.

The 500 doesn’t come with DRs or a race tune...unless they are working on a package for the drag racers. Now that would be cool. Although the numbers aren’t impressive, so far.
For me, it’s about buying a better car than what I currently owned. Especially if I have to come up with $20-$25k on top. I want this car to convincingly outperform my C7Z.

I remember seeing an OLD (circa 2016/2017) video of two mustangs at a drag strip (Florida perhaps) that was supposedly captured by a passer-by. The cars in question were rumored to be the new GT500 in dev and test. I believe at the time one of the cars captured was running right around this time: 10.8@high 120’s+.
It’s my opinion that the once the new GT500 is fully ready for showtime, it will trap better than 120’s and most likely click off 10.8 or better in stock form without race gas or drag radials.
Anyone familiar with the video / content I am referring to?

4200# race weight means with driver to me. So approximately 4000# without driver?
And the should have tried some E85 …:)

I thought about that too. I hope that’s the case here. Maybe this is why they haven’t release official numbers, cause they know those numbers aren’t that impressive.
And I yes, I get it, “this is not a drag car” but we are Americans, we like to go fast in a straight line. It doesn’t matter what they were built for, we compare them at the strip.

how old is that post? its not inconceivable that it is in fact true, but if from 2 years ago, or even 2 months ago, using a race fuel and low boost/timing ect while tuning a prototype car on the track, is likely, and old news

It's getting to the point where I'm starting to take not only some "automotive journalists" and their respective comments with a grain of salt but even people that are involved with the GT500 program in some way. This time around, so far, you've had to work a bit to find individual details such that you get an accurate and more complete understanding of this car.

So this quote caught me eye...

Detroit News said:
But wait, there's more. To take on the Camaro's ZL1 1LE cyborg, GT500 buyers can opt for the Track Package which includes a huge, raised rear wing, front splitter, dive planes, 20-inch carbon-fiber wheels and gummy Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires. With rear seat deleted, the car sheds 80 pounds.
Monster Mustang Shelby GT500 revealed at Detroit auto show

Some engineers said that the CF Track Pack wheels would save 60 lbs over those on the base GT500. Seems a bit high but ok. As to the RSD, I believe the GT500 delete will be near identical to that of the GT350R. I did the RSD on my own GT350 and the savings were documented as follows...

So the totals were:
- seat bottom 11.2 lbs
- seat backs 19.4 lbs (total)
- hardware/belts/brackets 8.4 lbs

That's 39 lbs of weight removed, prior to the delete install. The weight you add back in was as follows:
- delete panel 6.6 lbs
- hardware .4 lbs

So you added 7 lbs back in, bringing the weight savings number for this mod to a grand total of 32 lbs of weight reduction. If you paid $800 for the kit (a price everyone here should be able to beat) then you paid $25 per pound of weight loss.

Based on what I have seen of the GT500's interior the RSD panel looks near identical to that of the GT350R.

It is a very lightweight composite panel that makes up the bulk of the replacement assembly.

I'll assume the 60 lb wheel savings is legit for sake of argument. As I mentioned, it's been in print and from a number of sources. Here's one...

R&T said:
You also get carbon-fiber wheels with that package. They’re sourced from the same Australian company that makes the wheels for the GT350R, Carbon Revolution, only they now have an exposed weave and a glossy finish to show it off. And despite increasing in size, the GT500’s carbon-fiber 20s weigh just about the same as the GT350R’s 19s—around 18 pounds. These wheels help save around 60 pounds in unsprung weight, which will pay dividends in ride, handling and braking.
2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: All the Engineering Details

So the savings total between the CF wheels and the RSD should actually be just over 90 lbs. This assumes that Ford hasn't lightened the rear seat assemblies from the non CF Track Package GT500's over that of the GT350 rear seat assembly. Maybe, just maybe, the CF Track Pack car sneaks in at under 4100.

If dbk and sid have eluded to 10.8@133, why are we discussing a thread about 10.8@127?

Am I being too jarring to say wtf is the point of this thread?

Fear not. If this info is correct, it’s been rectified by Ford already. Maybe a preliminary test car with a soft calibration sucked but the car we have seen is faster than this.

I’ve had passes in the 12’s at 109 when my nitrous controller shit itself. That was in a 125mph bolt on 150shot car.

My point is bad runs happen.

Funny.... lol

When Demon runs 9.8-9.9s stock, people crucify Dodge. When new Shelby runs less than advertised... “bad runs happen”.... LoL!

A) ford hasnt advertised shit
B) that source of 10.8 @ 127 has no proof
C) lets wait till the car is actually produced to call something a bad run...

LoL at ford not advertising “shit”....

exact figures arent out, but the car was stated as 10.8 in the 130s with average conditions and average driver.
