exactly, this guy is going to be a PITA no matter what, he's just looking for shit to be upset about.

I would find some subtle ways to scare this guy without actually threatening him. Learn a little Russian and when you are outside and sure he's eavesdropping, act like you just made a call, then loudly speak in Russian and end the call with 'make it happen'...Mad dog this guy when you see him, don't break eye contact till he does first. Smirk a lot.....

Oh I could so do this as I belong to a WWI Russian reenactment group that belong to the GWA. The Legion Russe

  • Asked to borrow our riding mower multiple times, then was offended when I asked him if he'd buy me a new deck if I loaned it to him and he hit a stump/knot.
...........
  • ......he messages us "it's a great day for you to do yard work. Let us know if we can help. Really want it done so we can save the grass" lol.

  • Sends another message this morning saying we need to have it kept up monthly, and that we should split the bill. And to let him know so he can make it happen.
Long story short, he retorts that he can't speak to me because i'm irrational. I feel like his lack of perception is tragically flawed, and his list of priorities is greatly skewed. Am I being crazy?

Do either of you identify as a man?

Why all the text messages? Bunch of pussies, both of you. If there is an issue, invite the guy over to dinner and handle it like ****ing men. Talk it out, come to a solution and move forward.

Guy offers to pay half of the clean up and you say no. Yet you use the property EVERY SINGLE DAY to get to your house. Guy asks to use your mower (presumably to keep up with the maintenance!) and you say No... "because you might break it".

Sounds to me like you're the neighbor with the issue, not him.

Who GAF if he breaks your mower??

This is hair-dresser, woman botique drama at it's finest.

I use that saying frequently.

I get that. I feel like I am in a lot of ways. But the underlying issue was the attitude/rude nature of the entire thing. If I say i'm going to do it, I will, just chill out. Don't stand outside toe tapping waiting on me to get it done.
That part is absurd. Being treated like a child is uncalled for. It sounds like there is a dominance war going on and he's winning that battle by asserting himself. If you can avoid being an ass yourself or avoid telling him off it will go a long way. People like that feel like they win when you lose you cool as it reaffirms their belief that you're being irrational. The best thing to do is turn the tables. "What kind of child would cut Christmas lights? You're not accusing my wife of acting a child are you? Wouldn't you agree the more rational explanation is that a rodent ate through the line?" Take back that dominance by forcing him to admit the stupidity of his beliefs/behavior. Be prepared, it's not going to work if you have stupidity of your own to own up to.

^this. OP already said the neighbor provided this as an option--not sure why he's ignoring this option.

It's still on the table. We are discussing it. I'm just not down for a monthly bill of mowing a lot that I otherwise don't care about.

He's really the only person I have an issue with. And it's consistent.

I didn't know caring about people breaking your stuff made you a woman. You definitely tried hard on this thread for the lols. But I will happily borrow your mustang for some burnout competitions coming up since you don't seem to mind him breaking my stuff. I mean, I'll only throw one, maybe two rods out of the block. It'll be okay.

I give you a 3/10.

Don’t let him use your stuff. Period. He will break your stuff or injure himself and sue your ass off.

If he has no grounds to require you to maintain the easement make that point clear. He moved there after you, right? The previous owner originated the easement, right? That means the new neighbor agreed to the terms of the easement when he bought from the previous owner. My guess is he even paid less for the property because of the easement. His property or not, you have rights to use that property because of the easement. Good luck. I would not put up with this guy’s shit.

The way he has behaved is inappropriate and you need to tell him that very matter of factly. Explain to him that you have no duty to maintain the easement and that you have chosen to do so as a good neighbor. Then offer to split the cost of having the easement maintained. You may not be in the wrong nor have any responsibility to the upkeep of the easement but there are bigger battles worth having. This is trivial.

It's trivial except for the fact theres enough leaves and debris on the easement up front to fill 15 lowes bags. It will take half a saturday to properly do it.

THIS is why your neighbor is annoyed. It's obviously an eyesore. Just split the damn bill 50/50 and be done with it. How much could that possibly cost? If you don't want to do that then I suggest spending "half a Saturday" to do it right and then spending 30 minutes a week maintaining it. Don't you already maintain your own yard / property? Just do it at the same time.

Yes, your neighbor sounds like a nag but get over it.

I'd rather do 30 minutes of riding a mower once a week than having some bitchy, nosy neighbor in my shit all the time.

EDIT: OR do the above and wait for more time to pass then you can be a HUGE dick and file for adverse possession. South Carolina Adverse Possession Laws - FindLaw

No.. acting like a woman makes you a woman. You win 10/10 on that front so congrats.

You appear to be a tight ass who wants things your way only. Yet you cant figure out why the guy wont "compromise"?

LMAO... you and @Never_Enough should hang out.... perhaps become neighbors!

This is a good point and since OP is this far down the rabbit hole due to being a homo/one-way neighbor, probably best he doesnt give the guy an opportunity to make some money off of him (if he has any).

No way. It's way more fun to use someone's property everyday but have no legal attachment to it and allow it to be run into the ground because......... why not? AINT MY PROBLEM!

I don't see how that changes my answer. If it's the neighbor's property, and OP is maintaining it out of the kindness of his heart, then WTF is the guy bitching about? Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Otherwise, if he doesn't like how OP takes care of it, he can do it himself. Either way, the neighbor needs to STFU.
oh I agree with this 100%

the only reason I posted what I did was you said "(unless you don't want him on your property)" it was just for clarification that the easement is not the ops property

having an easment= compromise plain and simple, do your bi monthly maintenance and tell him to hire a guy to also do bi monthly maintenance opposite of your schedule. Doesn't matter what was signed that's life of agreeing to an easement.

or, you could light his house on fire, either or

Few points in no particular order.

1) Weird people almost always start killing pets
2) Your number needs changed, or his needs blocked from your devices
3) Where do you live that you only mow once a month? Mine would be a card from Jumanji by then.
4) How big is this easement? Push mower? Takes 5-10 minutes? Just do it. Sometimes it’s not worth the hassle. (Seriously, you’re married, you should be comfort just doing shit for your own sanity)
5) Have a beer with him, mention that you’re a little put off by his nosiness (be polite, remember #1)
