I've seen this site reference for good valuation expectations on trades, how realistic do you think it is?

Black Book Weekly Values Lite

Hit or miss. Just like all of the book values. It'll be extremely conservative on some vehicles, while overly optimistic on others.

I'm currently leasing a loaded Explorer Sport. How close to the residual have they been when the lease is up assuming you are within mileage (31,500 in my case) and in good shape? I still have awhile until the lease is up but am already thinking about keeping it assuming it's worth the residual.

It depends on the market. I imagine the 2020's will be out by the time your lease is up, killing the value on ours. We have a 2018 Platinum that the lease will be up in 2.5 years, and I expect the same.

I'm curious of the details around a lease residual as well if you could help/clarify. My wife has a 2017 Audi A3 that the lease is up on in 17 months. Car will have less than 30K miles on it at the end of the lease. Our son will be getting his permit around then and we were thinking maybe we'd purchase the car for him when the lease ended since we'd know the car was taken care of and he'd have a nice reliable AWD car for the 21K residual that is left at the lease end. I was in for an oil change at the dealership and they were trying to talk me into a newer model and said they'd give us 22K for the car, which we obviously declined. Seems like if that's what it's worth to them now, we will be waaaay upside down in seventeen months if we wanted to buy the car outright after the lease. Is it the norm for a car to be worth way less than the residual when the lease is up, are the residual values negotiable if you want to buy the car after the lease? Salesman said we'd probably be better of turning the wife's car in at the end if the lease then buying a car off their used lot than refinancing our car after the lease is up because of how upsidedown the value vs residual of the car would be?!?!? Only Audi dealership in INDY.

They can give you the $22k now, but then you're still responsible for all of the payments, less the $1,000.

@13COBRA There are three ford dealers around me relatively close buy that have pretty decent deals on new ford escapes. Assuming I have a trade in is it worth running the trade between them to see who will give me a better deal or just let one appraise it and figure the others will be in the same ballpark ?

You should send me your VIN and miles, and any damage or maintenance that needs to be done, and I can give you a very accurate ballpark of what you should expect. If you go to 1 dealer and they fall in the ballpark, I wouldn't waste your time going to other dealers.

Like I mentioned in the text, that's something that will probably have a wide variance between stores. I'd guess trade-in to be $27-28,500.

I ordered last year from the parts department of a Ford dealer a GT350 spoiler. Only recently did I decide to have it installed and realized the template that came with the spoiler is not correct. Apparently this has happened to other people who have purchased the GT350 spoiler. I asked my Ford dealer if they can get me a new template and so far they have been really unhelpful.

Is there a phone number to anyone at Ford Parts that can help me with this?

When we purchased our Explorer, we were given an option then and there to buy an extended warranty. If we didn’t and decided to later, we would have to pay an inspection fee AND the price was sure to increase.
1) What’s this inspection fee?
2) You’ve been in the car business for a while, how much have extended warranties went up each year?
3) Can you be competitive on an extended warranty?

1. The inspection fee is for a Ford ESP once your vehicle falls out of the manufacturer's warranty. If you stay within it, there shouldn't be a fee.
2. Not near as much as vehicle prices, or cost of service. To be honest, I don't think they've gone up much at all over the last 10 years.
3. Absolutely.

What type of deals are out there for new 18 expeditions?

I've seen some dealers take off 12k+ for some loaded XLT models and roughly the same for Limited models. And offer 0% up to 60months or 1.9% for 72months.

What I'm having a hard time finding is that huge rebate from Ford, or a good mix of Ford rebates and dealers offering their own incentives to push old inventory. How much more wiggle room is there.

Ford website as far as I can tell only shows incentives for 2019.
Zip of 33458 if that helps any.

There's an $8,500 rebate. The discounts on top of that vary, as some models have more markup. The more expensive you get, the more markup there is. If you go with a fully loaded Platinum that has an MSRP of $82,895, they can show you a total of $14,500 in savings off of MSRP.

The $8,500 rebate DOES NOT work with 0%/1.9%. Only $1,250 plus the dealer mark up would.

Now is a good time to buy one though. At the end of the month, the $8,500 rebate turns to a $3,500 final pay, making it harder for them to sell it next month. They may take a bit of a loss to move it.

If you have good credit, rates are stupid low again.

Agreed. Obviously I like the low rates, however it's not sustainable. Then when the rates start creeping up, all hell breaks loose haha

I remember when we bought an explorer the first time they did zero percent. It was insanity, all the salespeople were 3 or 4 deep in customers, we caught our sales guy when he stepped out to take a smoke break. We literally dragged him to the explorer on the lot and said "this one, now!" We did our paperwork at 11PM and our sales guy said they signed people until one in the morning.

Yep! Manufacturers have painted themselves in a corner though, because now if 0% isn't offered, everyone likes to bitch about 3-4%.
