Hell one on F150 forums has over 200k Miles a 2.7. You can’t buy into all the horror stories I realize the 2.7 had a bad batch, 3.5 with cam phasers so did the 5.4L 3V. Now the 18 coyotes not all are bad. You have a warranty for a reason and they’re making it right.

Am I right @13COBRA

Never had a phaser issue on my 5.4 with 135k, but I changed the oil every 5 with good oil.

Plus the F150 is one of the most selling vehicles in the USA. A completed truck rolls off the line every minute. You read about people having issues on forums but what is the percentage vs total units sold? I bet it's very low.

Same. Had a 5.4 3v to just over 100k miles. Never had an issue.

You rarely hear the good about an engine like you do the bad. I mean, the 4.6 4 valve blows spark plugs out of the heads and cooks the number 7 and 8 valve guides. I still bought one.

As do the 2 valves......the 9psi didn't hurt...lol Thank God for Time Serts!

I think you may be right. Nissan has been using Ford's spray in liner tech on the GTR since it came out in 2008. First thing they do off the production line is run it through a gauntlet coarse and run it's balls off. They haven't had this issue.

Or maybe Ford hasn't figured out the correct ring gap to use with these liners. I would think the spray in bore heats up and expands at a different rate than a steel liner and that would have to be accounted for. Dunno. Just a WAG.
Don't know but I'll continue to mod and race mine if it blows up oh well ill just throw a built short block in it.

The wife and I visited our dealer and spoke to a few folks we know in Sales. As is, we'd roll negative equity. If we want to just get out of the truck, it's a chunk of change to do so.

Sleeping on it and just talking to the wife helped. I/we decided it's getting a motor. But as of right now, based on SC lemon law, I only have 28 days before the truck hits the buy back tier. And with a 25 day back order on the motors, they're going to have to put it in fast. The minute it hit's 30 days I'm out and Ford can take it back.

I'm cautiously optimistic like I was about the TSB procedure. The truck was bone dry on the dipstick when we started it at 4500mi, and I was hoping it would seat/stop using oil. 2k miles later, no bueno. Talking to folks that have had the truck yote's has not helped my opinion either. I've yet to find one good success story. New motor eats oil/makes noise. Clearly somethings wrong with the manufacturing process I guess.

Anyway, yes, I was upset/emotional about it. But cooler heads are persevering. Especially when faced with the expense of thousands to avoid this issue entirely. Wife and I decided to use a portion of that money to buy a third car instead. In the event the truck situation continues to tank, it'll help having an extra pair of wheels to ride around in. I will update as things move along.

So what do you have to do after 28 days pass and you hit the buyback tier? And how long will all that take? Do you need an attorney for that? Are the laws state specific? Interested to see how this pans out, as I have never known anyone who went thru the LL stuff.

Good luck!

It's a pain.

We just helped a customer do it on a 2014 Focus. They ended up paying off her loan, and giving her $1,000 (which was more than fair). However, upon the RAV inspection of the vehicle, she had some body damage, the tires were bald, and she was missing one of the keys. It ended up costing her $1,588 to get it all fixed, so they would take it back. So she was -$588 after it was all said and done.

Fortunately the truck is pretty much perfect (so far).

Had raptor wheel and tire takeoffs on it and tint. Otherwise she's bone stock.

Exactly agreed. Some on the F150 forums are even worse lol.

Dont sweat it. Big ticket items that fail cause a lot of stress. Warranty definitely stepping up but your SC lemon law is tits. Even almighty CA is 2 months down for repair before lemon law. I went through the buyback process with Ford on my beloved GT500. 15K miles and it was missing the diamond coated lock washer causing the ECU to see false misfire events from the crank trigger.

My GT500 was down for nearly 3 months the first 6 months I owned the car. 2 for the engine before they figured out what the problem was and 1 for getting the TR6060 rebuilt. Process with Ford was smooth once the ball got rolling. Ended up keeping my car (glad I did) because there were only 2 untitled 2014 GT500s left in CA at the time. Silver or White and, well, it had to be Race Red. Plus the additional options on those cars would have pushed my monthly payment past where I was comfortable with.

Hell, you could ask the service department to throw in forged rods and Diamond pistons in the new shortblock..... :D :D :D MEXICO HERE WE COME!!!!

Sounds like a good plan. Keep us posted and hang in there.

O.P., I hope it all works out well for you now that you have decided what to do. We work hard for our toys, and when something like this happens, it gets you in the gut sometimes. It’ll all work out for ya!

And my dad just bought a ‘19 5.0 truck

Awesome
Grain of salt, man.

Apparently 25% of F150s are sold with the 5.0. They sell nearly a million trucks per year.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are 400,000 of them out there. If there was a consistent issue, there would be a lot more noise about it.
