I’m kind of thinking about switching my 2.8 Kenne bell ( I have someone who wants to buy it ) for a gen4 but I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I run 93/Boostane no e85
Put down 648 rwhp at 21. How much more can I possibly get with a gen 4 and pump gas?
I know it will be more efficient but again is it worth it. Have return fuel system, full exhaust all surpporting mods.

Id probably look at dropping to a 2.3 unless you go e85. I know Malcolm with a built motor, 2.9 and 30 psi said his 2.3 tvs at 24 psi is way more fun to drive as it hits harder in the low to midrange. Id image a 2.8 on pump gas would be lazy.

Your 100% right the 2.8 is lazy down low but she does shine up top.
The car is a fun weekend car. It would be nice to get that low mid range power. maybe the tvs 2.6 would be right where I want to be give me a little taste of everything

I think we could all give better advice if we knew the HP goal and the fuel you would be running.

I have worked with all of the blowers, the 2.65 and 2.9 3/4 are very similar in power output. The real limiting factor is octane and how well the engine flows. If you want to be a player at 800+rwhp you need to start investing in the motor with cams atleast. Don't expect GT500 or coyote numbers from a 4.6L. Back then the 4v didn't get GT heads like the 5.4 GT500 engine which got them when it came out in 07.

We designed our VMP gen3 2.65l to meet the needs of the customer with a stock fuel system to the person that wants to turn it up and go for 900+rwhp. Most everyone is going with the big oval GT500 bolt pattern elbow and throttle body at this point. We've got a 5in CAI to feed it, or you can use a JLT with a reducer coupling. The stock TB location lets you change plugs easily and use any TB or CAI combo.

If you are on pump gas, think 3.2 or 3.3 upper pulley with stock lower. On E85 or race gas, you can turn it up, 4lb and 3.2 or 3.1 is a good combo. If stock lower you can go down to 2.8-2.7 upper.

As far as power goes, figure mid 600s on pump gas, mid 700s on mild e85 combo, and then 800-900rwhp on built combos (heads/cams/compression) depending on specifics. If you build these things and run E85 you pretty much want 10:1 CR. The L&M or kurgan NSR cams work really well, boost drops, and any blower will get much more efficient at lower boost levels.

We are going to offer a CNC case porting option that will add 30rwhp at higher boost levels.

We will always use the eaton 2.65l rotors in our highest performing products. The rotor design is incredible, eaton got it right.

Not enough info on the tvs 2.65 but its promising. I think tht blower will do well on pump and on e85 it will be a great blower. all around I would say. I can speak for the 2.3, 2.8kb and 2.9. I had them all. I wouldn't install a 2.3 whipple as the 2.65 tvs is a better option. The 2.8 and 2.9, esepcially the gen 4 2.9, you need to spin them. I am talking to a few guys who are testing the gen 4 and you need boost.

My 2.9 whipple at 22lbs hits harder than my 2.3 whipple setup at 22lbs and down low at 22lbs was on par with the two tvs cobras I have been in. The tvs was a tad bit more responsive but my 2.9 was violent and it pulls hard up top. At 25lbs my 2.9 with the stock motor, the car would just jump forward and take off. and it was a riot driving it around town.

Still can't figure out why people don't understand this yet. The number of people I see saying a TVS 2.6 or Whip 2.9L will make 1000rwhp on a stock 03-04 cobra is insane. That's why the guys who have switched to GT heads on the 4.6L make way more power than the ported 03-04 heads.

Who honestly cares about dyno number anyway? It's not a great hp barometer. Take it to the track and see what's really up with your setup.

My personal opinion I would buy more blower than you need. I went with a 3.4L whipple back in 09 due to the only other options being 2.3's and 2.6 KB's. I live at 3400ft elevation I move less air then owners down at sea level air. A 2.3L for me would have just generated extra heat due to being spun harder.

Move the air you want/need with less rotor rpm and keep the heat down from the heat pump we all love to use.

I honestly don't mind if my blower is a bit lazier down low, it helps put the power down on the street and gets you going forward. Plus it doesn't feel lazy!

I’ve been trying to find out the same thing on which one to get. I’m limited on fuel in my area with no e85. So I was going to run pump gas with torco. What’s a safe boost # with that combo? I have access to race fuel but was only was going to be for special events. My idea was going twin turbo compound set up but have heard lots of headaches with getting it right. That and the cost which for me is not worth what I’m going for. So with no e85 and thinking of getting the car set up with pump gas/torco tune and another tune for pulley swap and race gas for more boost what would you guys recommend? The car is just used for getting together with the buddies and playing on the weekends and occasionally a track day a couple of times a year. I do have a buddy with a hellcat and one with a 2.9 Whipple ZL1 camaro that I would like to hang with and beat for bragging rights is all. Lol

Those are great numbers!
Can you please list your engine mods, exhaust etc along with boost level?
I’m still trying to decide between the VMP gen3 and a Whipple Crusher 2.9 gen4 (or the rumored gen5) if it is released for the ‘03 Cobra.
My engine will be a 10.5:1 Aluminator build with Ported heads and either stage 2 cams or custom. Full LT AR headers with 3” collectors and 3” catback. Return fuel system on e85.

Thanks
Ken

I also was between the whipple and the vmp. Price point and the ability to remove the inlet sold me. There wasn’t much data on it so I kinda took a gamble and I’m glad I did. As far as my set up it’s a built stock displacement stock compression motor with cams. Return system and e85 long tubes and 25 pounds of boost. It’s a blast on the street.

I'm still rocking a 2.3L TVS .... 10.1 at 141.2 mph (stock 4.6L), 756 rwhp on E85 ~ Really can't go wrong with either, TVS might offer a little more torque.

I really like my tvs 2.3 on e85. I have no plans on changing it. If I did, probably would be for a turbo.

I also run a 2.3 tvs and its runs hard. I've thought about a turbo but there are a couple of things that turn me off: the cost and in my mind a terminator should be a PD blower.
The 2.9 and 2.65 have proven to be worthy blowers for these cars. Big hp and tq while still being an easy swap

Btw a 10 to 1 motor with this blower will be absolutely nutty
