Guys,

I am using the search feature to try to help decide what blower I want on my 07 but need some specifics on this please. I have always loved the look of the Ford Racing Whipple 2.9. I was all in to go that route until JD 's channel on youtube joyridetv I believe its called really showed how the TVS has a lot more torque in lower rpm's which I like the sound of.

Question is his Whipple was a 3.4..if I went with a smaller 2.9 will it still have that lack of low end torque of the TVS blowers?

Thanks for any knowledge you have on this!

TVS will make more torque than the 2.9.

All I need to know and digging a bit more I found number and with smilier mods the tv seemed to put nearly the same tq number down as hp whereas the Whipple was always 50-70 under the hp number.

Thanks!

TVS all the way for a street car.
What’s your power goal?
A Gen 2R hits really hard, as does a 5.8 Trinity TVS.
You need to spin them but a 2.3 will save you money and still support 900rwhp.

Can anyone give me a run down on which blowers of the VMP family and Whipple will or will not allow the use of the factory strut tower brace on my 2007?

I know it's not a huge deal to remove it I just prefer to keep to so that may factor into what blower I choose, thanks!

Lol. 2 days ago it was vmp gen1. I’ll take this as my answer that you aren’t serious and not to expect any reply to my number you requested. Ghosted me harder than that Bikini Barista.. damn !

You can rework the stock STB to fit with a Whipple 2.9 in place. I had the Whipple/FRPP kit on my '09 along with Ford's Procal and tune...it was a beast. I don't think you'd be disappointed "down low" or anywhere else in the range for that matter.

3.4 has a hard time fitting the stock hood even with the lowering motor mounts so a strut tower brace would be a no go for sure. Might fit with an aftermarket hood if you raise up the brace on the strut towers using nuts. Also wouldnt recommend the 3.4 blower if you plan on keeping the motor stock or not ever running e85. It is incredibly lazy on pump gas but pulls good on e85 so should be real good with a forged bottom end e85.

Never trust those numbers/comparisons. The TVS blowers are typically running 2.6" or 2.4" pulleys. The Whipple blowers are usually running 3"+ pulleys. A 2.6" pulley on a Whipple 2.9 would destroy a TVS running the same size pulley. And don't forget that Whipple now has a newer generation 2.9 that supposedly rivals the TVS's efficiency, which means it'll actually make more power.

As far as the strut tower brace goes, it depends on what intake you have. It'll clear the Whipple 2.9 with no problems. It's the intake that gets in the way for most Whipple applications.

What fuel are you running right now? Is your current combo in your signature? Do you think you left anything on the table by not going with the 4.0L?

Thanks guys, I LOVE the 2.9 Whipple but believe I am going with a TVS due to the 2.9 Whipple not having the "whine" my pullied stock eaton or a tvs has.

yeah my signature is my updated combo. I run e85 full time even though my only pump is 40min away from me since we only have 91 ocatane in my area so I only used it for the initial tune and fill the car up with it for winter storage. With the stock motor I dont think I left anything on the table by not going to the 4.0L I got a really good deal on the 3.4L and I always knew this car would get a sleeved built motor in the future so i was ok knowing id be under spinning it with the stock motor since it wouldn't stay that way. This was also before I ever saw the gen 3r crank out almost 1300 without nitrous. And the 4.0L would only make this worse with the stock motor. My current plan is to build the motor this year, spin the 3.4 as hard as I can to see what its capable of and then Ill dump the blower all together to go to turbos so the 3.4L felt like a good compromise to me at the time. I also chose whipple as a personal preference because I like the power band and how it feels on the road even though i know a TVS hits harder down low I really like power that hits and then keeps going

Sooo... basically, you had your mind made up before you even asked. This is literally the first time I've ever seen somebody say a Whipple doesn't have enough whine.

Why would you assume that? No, with further research and hearing people mention that I started to notice it on videos. Maybe it's the videos if it's not true but after I read the it sure seems like I notice it too. Do you follow JD on youtube? joyride tv I really noticed it when he switched to Whipple his didn't whine hardly at all.

It may sound silly I just always enjoy that whine sound!

It's because they're smaller blowers. Smaller blowers make more noise. A smaller pulley on the Whipple will make all the noise you want.

Thats part of my reasoning for the Whipple 4.0. I know a lot of guys love the huge torque down low from the TVS (both 2650 and 2.3 when spun) and its very impressive.

But I want the car to work the best on the strip with prep and out in Mexico. Both situations mean the engine speed will be in the upper half of the RPM range. Im reasoning this is where a larger displacement Twin Screw blower shines over a TVS. If Im wrong, please correct me. No sarcasm either, Id like to know people's experience.

It honestly may come down to how much effort I want to put into fitting the Whipple. Im 100% sure I do not want to replace my hood. I already have a set of KB lowering mounts, and I can get the Whipple K frame spacer kit. I need to see how much clearance is needed on my drivers header for the steering shaft.

If you want a loud blower buy a 3.6KB, it will make all the blower noise you could ever want.

Bigger is always better, right? That TVS has to spin faster to match the airflow of the bigger supercharger. All superchargers have a range of efficiency. Obviously the larger 2.9 occurs at higher engine speeds and the 2.2 at lower engine speeds, as evidenced by the torque curve. What's the point of your comparison, if it pushes the engine past the octane you can effectively use on the street? No one is saying the Whipple is not a good supercharger, it's just might not be the right tool for OPs objectives.

Torque = horsepower / rpm * 5,252. If the TVS makes more torque, it's making more horsepower at lower rpm. It's efficiency map might be a better match for the power band on a stock cammed 5.4 running pump gas. Start turning up the wick and that might no longer be the case. The 2.9 should make more horsepower, but if it does it at the sake of getting it's ass kicked below the peak, what is the net gain? You'll only find that out at the track. Most cars designated to street duty don't spend a lot of time at 6,500 rpm. I think you get a lot more enjoyment out of the street ride if your parts compliment the rpm you drive your car. Sometimes the "hit" on the smaller blower can be quite violent too, so sometimes a trade off in peak power vs torque better compliments some applications/driving styles.

Here's an analysis I did several years back to help me decide on a blower. These were fairly evenly matched 5.8s, but the TVS car did have a set of headers and the KB car did not. If these two cars were running E85, I think the results might have been different in terms of the averages. I have no idea which car would have beat the other on a drag strip, but would probably boil down to driver skills anyway. Look at the differences in boost. The efficiency of the 2.3 used the full benefit of that blower, while the KB unit was just getting into the efficiency range on the top of the rpm range. But that's the characteristics of big blower/little blower.

Now, if OP is running E85, cams or a combination of both, the tables are turned. But there's a TVS for that too. Now that playing field would a lot tighter. Bottom line is match the supercharger to how you intend to use the car and consider mods and octane in that analysis. If you look hard enough, there are tons of dyno charts in this forum to help you make a wise decision.

I agree with this. I had a TVS on my LS2 daily driver on pump gas. It was perfect for my environment where I wanted more response down low with not a lot of places to open it up, and I didn't want to build the car that much. Now I'm in a more open area with a weekend built turbo car on e85. Different places, different uses, different choices.
