Seems like a good race.

Hmm. Seems no activity lately if we are not bashing the estimated hp, performance or weight.

Odd

I'll take the M5. And smile all day long. Those are impressive performance numbers.
STARTING at $110k, plus much more expensive maintenance, more depreciation and less potential.
I can see guys who have money to burn and just want 100% stock performance.
I’ll take the GT500 and $2000 in mods and smoke any M5.

I agree but, tune and bolt ons for $4500 on an m5 picks up almost 150whp and over 150wtq!!!

And at that point you’re definitely tapped out with that car and I’d question the reliability at that level of the drivetrain.
$4500 into the 500 would make the 5.2/TVS easily 1000rwhp.
Modded discussions always pointless but so is thinking a guy with $100k is going to cross shop these 2 cars.

Most people i know dont blink at it, and have the M5s as daily drivers, and supercars or dedicated "race cars"

You’d be surprised

The n54’s hold 700-800 whp

I think people have gotten the m5 v8 to 1100whp

Surprised by what?
I’m saying without swapping turbos (and likely building the engine), that M5 can’t add much more power than that 150/150 you’re talking about. Stock turbos are always small/medium on these cars stock.
On the other hand the 5.2/2650 combo is proven 1000rwhp capable with just max pulleys.
Again, modding argument is pointless here and it’s going to take big money on top of a BASE $110k to keep up with a mildly modified 500.

What’s your point? I could drive an M5 daily and have a new 500 but I don’t want that. There’s always someone with more money. I’m more of an AMG (have had several) than BMW guy, and I’d agree they are close to the ultimate DD now that the E63/M5 are AWD, but as a non-DD ‘fun car’ I’m guessing 9/10 guys would choose a 500.
Hell I turned in a newer ML63s in the middle of winter for a new Hellcat Charger as my DD, just because it has more character. I do miss the AMG massaging seats :(

Bmw’s are less likely to be taken to the edge here in the states. American cars get more of the full power builds here.

In Europe, and the east it’s more common to see high hp m and Amg builds.

I don’t want or desire an m5, but the cars are very capable. Tuned ones have gone low 10’s on street tires without all the tricks and changes we usually do from slicks to pulling interior in mustangs and American cars.

The tech is lost on me. I spend more time in the woods than I do in my cars.
