Some Ford Dealerships offer a lifetime powertrain warranty as a free incentive on new cars.

I'm looking for a base GT likely with the 10 speed, and would like to add a Procharger.

Would their lifetime warranties cover engine damage if i took off the Procharger, uploaded the stock tune or installed a new ecu? Can dealerships track ecu reprogram?

Most likely they could tell if you had modifications like that. Yes they can read ecu flashes and how long its been since last flash. Its gonna be a red flag as soon as they look in the computer. Gotta read the fine print on those warranties too, a lot of them require service at that dealer etc.

My local dodge dealership has this to, if you didn't modify the vehicle for them to cover it they wanted all maintenance done by them, oil changes every 5,000, front end alignment every third oil change -- I'm hoping you get the picture. in other words read the fine print.

This is often a common misconception. There can be a big difference between a “dealer recommended service schedule” and the manufacture recommended service schedule.

Dealers often recommend heavily bloated maintenance schedules that include coolant and transmission flushes every 30k, injector cleaning every 15k, oil changes every 5k, etc. Meanwhile the actual manufacture maintenance schedule could be as easy as oil change every time prompted by the vehicle (up to a max mileage), air filter every 30k, coolant at 100k, trans flush at 120k, etc.

The dealership that I worked at offered a lifetime powertrain warranty with all vehicle sales (new and used) that required that only the manufacture recommended service schedule was followed. They didn’t even require that they do the service. The warranty was valid nation wide. Their selling point was that all your service records in one place makes it easiest for warranty claims, but as long as you have your records and can prove that you have followed the schedule, all issues were covered for a $100 deductible.

As with everything, it is important to read the fine print and completely understand what you are buying and agreeing to.

I can only tell you what the sales guy was telling me, it was probably only to create revenue for the dealership? Anyhow your reply makes better sense so thanks for the clarification.

I can promise you, 99.99999999% of the time a lifetime ANYTHING is a gimmick.

I think in this case in particular isn’t necessarily a gimmick. More of a valid service that they are banking on people not keeping up with the requirements. When it comes time to make a claim, the are hedging their bets that you either won’t have followed the maintenance schedule to the letter or don’t have documentation to prove that you have.

Says the dealer pushing Ford ESP vehicle service contracts which do not have the same coverages as better service contracts such as CNA national VSC’s etc....very disappointing to see this comment from a “industry professional”

Lifetime Warranties are backed by legitimate insurance companies and have CLIP or Contractual Insurance Liability Policy. They are legitimate and they are bound to the fine print.

OP - expect the lifetime warranty to be voided if you go FI. It’s the risk you take.

If anything I have always seen Nick do the exact opposite to what you just said, especially when talking Ford ESP’s sooo....

I'll agree with some others that most of this stuff is a gimmick. That being said one of the biggest reasons dealers do this is it gives people peace of mine they will never have to pay for a powertrain failure, but the warranty isnt transferable and the dealer is banking on trading that customer into something else way before they use that warranty.

My dealer used to offer this but sadly stopped. We bought my wife's car while it was going on and I do actually plan on keeping her car until it just isnt feasible any longer. It wont be worth much to trade in, its reliable and good on gas. It's nice to know I wont ever have to pay for an engine, transmission, oil or trans leaks, axles, wheel bearings etc.

Our warranty is actually great, I've used it on several customer cars and as long as their isnt signs of serious neglect, abuse, or heavy modifications, they pay for the repair no questions asked.

Edit** all that being said, read the fine print!! I've dealt with some laughably shady extended warranties. American auto shield comes to mind. They denied a claim last week because they wont cover any repairs if there is a TSB on the issue. Not a recall or warranty extension, a freaking TSB! They also argue over labor times making the customer pay the difference between what they pay and what the dealer charges and requested to send me used parts instead of paying for new $23 sway bar links lol. Stay far far away.

The Ford dealership can check how many times the PCM has been flashed. If the procharger or a bad tune caused the failure, you shouldn't reasonably expect to have it covered. The only extended warranty that is worth anything imo is the Ford ESP warranty.

Agreed. Obviously if it isn't related to the modification you made, you should expect a warranty to cover say a leaking strut even on a car with a supercharger but if its something powertrain related you are taking the risk of failures into your own hands by installing something like a supercharger.

The top 3 extended warranty companies that I've personally dealt with are:

1. Hendrick Autoguard
2. Carmax
3. Ford ESP

Honda has this too. Biggest pain in the ass. Oil change every 5k and rotate every 10k. You have a 1k mile leeway. No matter how much service you may have done, if you miss one rotate then that warranty is void.

@stampede3

Looks like someone is knowingly posting wrong info.

And has been called on it.

Could you buy a secondary ecu, and use it for your procharger?

When you go to the dealer plug the original ecu in and remove procharger.
