COP plug change?

When did Ford change the design of the COP plug? I went to change out the broken connectors on my car, but found the new plugs are different. The metal plug on the old plug is a smaller square. The replacement plug is more rectangular. So naturally I'd have to change out the pins as well. But I'd rather not do that if possible. I ordered these replacements months ago planning for the next plug change. So naturally I don't have the part number.

Did you get the correct one for your year?
I'm assuming I did. There's no part number on the bag. And I ordered them back in January I think.

I know sometimes things change and we just have to adjust. I ended up ordering a crimping tool.

That makes it a little more difficult to tell if they changed something on different years. Is it and easy fix?

I looked through Tasca Parts and found the same PN for both 03 and 04. With the right tool it won't be too bad. Just one more thing on the long ass list I have going on now.

I guess my question is. Is it possible you ended up with COP from a gt500 or a 5.0? Not sure if they are different to be honest.

The COP itself is actually the same between GT500 and the Cobras. But this is the connector on the wiring harness. I remember hearing something changed in the plug design at some point. But I don't remember when it happened.

Oh your replacing the actual connector on the wireing harness. Got any pics next to each?

I'll try to grab some tomorrow. I meant to take them before I came in, but got distracted by something else.

I did some looking and found out I bought the plugs December of 2017. Looks like I ordered them from a Wholesale Warehouse. I'm going to guess they're Chinese knock offs.

Edit: Yeah, they're knock offs. I found a similar set on Amazon. The set I have don't have wires attached, but the plug itself has the same yellow lock and orange rubber gasket. Off to find the Motorcraft PN.

I just wanted to post that I ordered a different version than Fords. Mostly because any place that had the Ford part would've taken forever to get here and I'm a little impatient right now. I ended up ordering these and they plugged right in.

They work that’s great.

I would have hit local bone yard and just snipped a few

Honestly, for what I would have spent in gas, entry fee, and my time this was the better option. The nearest junk yard is about 30 miles south. And I've never seen anything with a 4V in the normal yard. So I would have had to spend more money to get into the better yard. Plus, as DSG mentioned, who's to say they would be in any better shape than the ones I replaced.

Guess we are spoiled here.
Bone yards here have nice junk
And over a dozen within miles

Yet 50 miles away here is next door around the block
