I see what you did there but it doesn't compute. There is no way that each base seat is 25lbs heavier than a Recaro. The ancillaries on the barcaloungers are much lighter than you'd think they'd be.

C&D Lightning Lap 13 is out online (Nov. mag will be the printed version).

Lightning Lap 2019: Every Car, Every Lap Time!

Why is there no 2020 GT500? I expected it to be there and we can FINALLY get a time on what this car could do on VIR Grand Course. They ran a 19 ZL1 1LE 10sp auto and got 2:45 flat (couple years ago they ran a stick 18 ZL1 1LE and got 2:45.7).

So it looks like 2:45 is the time to beat against its closest competitor on this track but being AWOL the waiting continues on what this thing can do.

My patience ran out ages ago when the important info is STILL nowhere to be found...……………………..I'll just await the arrival of my ZR1 next week from the dealer to my house.

The GT500 will beat the 2:45 by a large margin but so would the 1LE with a pro tester. The 500 and C8 are both being released for media soon but you will need to wait for the motortrend test for REAL results next year.

Beautiful ZR1 btw

Tony,

As you know; you'll love the ZR1. It should not disappoint by any stretch of the imagination in looks or performance. What combo/options did you order? When I purchased my '19 Z06 earlier this year (long beach red) the dealer had a Shadow Gray Metallic ZR1 on the showroom floor that was about $50K more than my Z06. Man it was tempting for sure, but I went with the Z06 simply due to price point and for the fact that I most likely would never be able to use the ZR1's (or even Z06) potential on the road to justify the cost difference. Not only that, but my wife would have kill me with a high car payment, and also knowing my racing days are behind me.
I had thoughts about waiting for the up-and-coming GT500, but Ford was so slow at releasing information on the car, the fight to find one the way that I would want it without paying ADM, and the fact that I like a removable roof, I decided to go with the lighter weight sports car.

Mine is fully loaded. M7, 3ZR, ZTK, carbon flash wheels and mirrors, exposed CF everything which is black that isn't carbon flash.

Comp seats, CF dash and steering wheel, red stitching and seat belts, calipers.

Yeah, it's got everything other than the glass roof.

Nice colour on that Z06...……….looks great!!!!!

Just came back from the IMSA races at Road Atlanta. I had the opportunity to spend time with George from MGW and his '19 ZR1 (looks to be near identical to yours Tony). To reiterate, this car is on a whole nother level in comparison to any S550 based production car. It is literally a fighter jet you drive instead of fly. George just bolted in one of his shifters and I was surprised to learn the factory shifter was no different than lesser C7 models - regardless, I highly recommend following in his footsteps.

One thing I noticed. We drove the car from the dealer in Jacksonville, Florida, to Augusta, Georgia on a previous visit. I paid close attention to heat from the engine on the hood, the bubbled portion of the hood above the supercharger, the blower itself, etc. Hours after shutdown the heat was still immense. This time around, with more miles on the car, I used an infared temperature gun he had and noticed a decrease in temps with similar ambient temps and usage. Break-in has to be minimized what with synthetic oil, etc, but there was quite a difference from what I saw. I'll be interested to hear your comments on the same once you have yours.

That was an actual question, im not following what those weights are

The ~50lb difference in the numbers you mentioned is clearly not in the seats. Once again, Ford is unclear as to specifics and weight. And it doesn't make sense that they still won't list the weight specifically for the CFTP cars. That's all.

I spent the past couple of days at Road Atlanta with George from MGW. Kohr had a rough go but I had the oportunity to pick a few brains and had a lot of fun. We just drove to his factory in a '19 ZR1 and there is no ****ing way the pig labeled "GT500" could even come close. The ZR1 is an absolute rocket with wheels on it. We also had the opportunity to take a close look at a couple of C8's as well as a sectioned chassis that is making rounds at the IMSA races. At this point the ZR1 can easily handle the C8 as well. Interesting to read Jim Mero's comments...

After the first test with increased understeer I feel that Jim Mero is correct.

Wouldn't the CF rims be part of the difference?

Sure they would and are. Problem is, Ford isn't delineating specifically as to the weight of the CFTP car so all you can do is guess. That latest chart lists it's weight as TBD.

Lol, anyone that settled for a zr1 over mustang... shouldn't have been considering a mustang in first place I would think?

Aren't they about 50k more too?

Completely agree with you man...I am a mustang guy at heart. I was dead set on getting a new toy and the gt500 was at the top of my list...problem is that my go-to dealer would NOT budge on charging me (and I am in the car business) a big adm. I am not very patient so I wanted my new toy...a crazy deal on a ZR1 popped up out of nowhere and I jumped on it. I love my ZR1 but coming from a GTR the A8 is a mess in manual mode...regular spirited driving in auto mode it is as good as anything out there (in track mode). I am still patiently waiting on the reviews on the new 500 but my desire is fading.

So approx. $110,000 for a CFTP GT500 vs $126,000 (my price) loaded ZR1...its a little closer than you think...GT500 including $10,000 ADM.

Unless the GT500 really is Mclaren-fighting fast, it's not going to hold an ADM for as long as the 350R.

Not at that MSRP.

Settle??? I don't think "settle" is the right word to use when talking about a ZR1. If someone could get into a ZR1 financially that is moving up to a different league AFA the type of car to own. If I could own a new Ferrari I would jump at the chance to get one I wouldn't "settle" for one.

There are some deals and stuff from several dealers that still have some new ZR1's available (1 dealer on CF has 3 at this moment going for like US$127k and change). If you could find a CFTP car near MSRP or with a slight ADM you are in that territory. If you are settling on a base GT500 then a ZR1 might be a bit high on the price point.

No matter what these are generally $100K cars, you can either afford them or you can't it's not like 1 car is half the price of the other with similar performance that is just not going to happen with any car in this day and age.

BTW, Tob I'll PM you later today or tomorrow about your posting above I don't want to clutter this thread with ZR1 talk. The talking should be about the Shelby and when we can FINALLY see real performance #'s that's what we should be discussing.

I'm going to disagree on this one.

The performance numbers have a lot less to do with the price of the car as you'd think.

Maybe it's my own bias.

I just don't see this car doing as well unless something makes it very special.

I like to think the GT350R did that because it had things not a lot of cars had (carbon wheels, 8250 RPM, FPC, all for $65k MSRP).

We will find out though.

You misunderstood me. 'Settle' for zr1 is crazy!!

I dont have zr1 cash. My gt500 order is like 76k?

CFTP bits and painted stripes look cool but dont add performance I cant get with a pulley and tune. Say NO to 100k mustangs :)
