Well it’s that time. Within the next few days my “new” 04 Cobra motor will be delivered, and I’m trying to plan out the swap in my head.

To those of you that have done this swap: what wiring did you use? The motor is coming with the engine harness, but no ECU. Can the engine harness plug into my GT ECU and function properly? If not - what steps have to be taken to use the GT wiring to make the 4v work? I know I’ve read that polarity must be swapped, I just can’t remember if it’s the COP or the injectors, or both. Also I know I’ll have to extend some wiring, so which gauge wire should I use for that?

Overall I expect this swap to be pretty straightforward, but who knows. It’ll be my first motor swap experience. Thankfully I’m on no real timeline.

Pretty sure the COPs have swapped polarity. Don’t think it would run with a GT computer though.

Why wouldn’t it? If the COP polarity is swapped and the entire GT harness is there, it would be just like uploading a tune for a supercharged motor.

Just seems like more potential hassle to not buy the right ecu with the right baselines. I feel like something like GT injector pulses could easily throw off the A/F ratio. Is everything like IAC, TPS voltage the same?

you should stick with the gt harness make the couple changes and just get it tuned.

im doing aa termi motor swap right now but i am swapping to the complete cobra harness but i have done a couple b/c head swaps into gt's and used the gt computer each time. If i didnt want the cobra cluster and to plug everything straight in i would be using the gt harness in my current swap.

I appreciate the info.

As of now, it looks like the motor will be making its way across country to a new home.
