Ford hasn't officially confirmed they're coming yet.

But, I imagine June/July.

So school me on this. I've never understood how people order a car. Do you just go to your local dealer and say I wanna order a GT500? Do you get to pick each option as you want? Do you put down a deposit?

Always been curious the actual process for those that have ordered cars.

Has to be a dealer that participated/enrolled in the "program" (unless they got a car from a participating dealer). Dealer that pays in is then supposed to get at least 1 GT350 and 1 GT500. Also known as an allocation of each. So ask if your dealer has an allocation available. If they do, be prepared to negotiate as best you can. And if the car hasn't already been ordered, yes, you can choose the options you want.

A more thorough explanation...

I'm on the other side of the fence, don't understand how people just go to a dealership & buy " whatever " they have on the lot ??

I've never ordered a car before but I'm seeing what you mean. I've been looking for a 2020 and they either have options I don't care about or they're missing an option/options that I want.

I went to my dealer last summer for my 2020 GT350

I ordered the base seats, handling package, and painted black roof.
no big stereo, no carbon fiber dash, and no stripes. It was just a matter of going line by line for options and saying yes or no.

my raptor on the other hand, dealer had it in stock, loaded, and I bought it right off the lot.

it’s just a matter of either finding a car in stock and buying it or ordering it the way you want and be prepared to wait.

ordered the Shelby in early August, built first week of October, came in first week of November 2019.

usually the problem (from an enthusiast perspective) is when dealers order a specialty vehicle for stock, they load them up. They know they are going to sell the few that they get, so they check all the boxes. They also usually order the colors they know will sell. This is why almost every Raptor you see is a Black super crew.

Yep.

From a dealer's standpoint, if you're ordering a vehicle for stock that you know will sell... you want to put every option on it.

A base GT500 with no options has less than $3,000 mark up. A loaded one has about $4,500.

For sure! Of course, my local dealer has 3 GT350s in stock..and all have the $2000 electronics pack (BLIS, NAV, B&O 12 speakers) and $495 sofa seats. Not exactly the configuration someone with track use in mind would spring for. Recaros are a must on this car IMO.

Agreed. Unless it's an R all the local ones have the regular seats. Like what?? Recaros should be the only option IMO.

I'm seeing this on a lot of the gt500's locally, handling pack, tech pack w/ the heated and cooled seats. The recarros are the #1 option im looking for and most cars are loaded up except for the recarros

The Recaro seats are standard on both GT350's, the Leather-trimmed with Miko® Suede Sport Seats are a $495 option.

Its the opposite on the new gt500 I believe, the heated and cooled are standard and the recarros are a $1500 option?

You believe correctly.

Strange how you have to pay $495 plus your Recaro seats for seats that come standard in a 2020 GT500 and an option for the GT350, but you have to pay $1495 plus your standard seats for the Recaro seats as an option for the GT500.

The Shelby order bank usually opens about 2 months after the Mustang order bank. Last year Mustang 05/2020 and Shelby 07/2020.

Maybe Nick @13COBRA, can fine tune the dates on the 2020MY opening. I know the Shelby order bank opened on 07/01/2019.

If production continues through Dec, the 2021 order bank may not open until Nov for the Shelby. I guess we will know when it is finally open.
