Test drove a new raptor.

great looking truck. easy bed access with step. Great interior loaded with options. Seats were fantastic along with tilt/telescoping wheel. Tons of room and great options but.....

The exhaust note was worse that I expected. The engine acceleration felt weak even if with the 10 speed auto. I wasn’t expecting much from the exhaust but was stunned out how it struggled to move out.

Do most Raptor owners get a tune?

Run a tank of 93 through it, it'll feel way different. I thought the same thing when I test drove a 2019 Limited with the same engine.

They wake up after a little break in. Especially the 10 speed. It needs to learn your driving style. At least my little 2.7 did.

That too. My 2019 3.5 woke up especially if I run 93 in it.

I just bought a Raptor a couple months ago. The exhaust isn't that bad after you get used to it, I'm actually starting to like it. 93 octane makes a huge difference in the power and it makes a world of difference if it's tuned.

Im guessing like alot of the hi po EcoBoost they dont wake up till a small break in and some 91+ octane. My MKZ has much more power/pep after 5k miles. Using 91 too.

Good to know about the octane/break in period. Is there any aftermarket solution that sounds better?

You could get a tune, but i believe ford has a break in tune setting from the factory thats part of its learning ability.

I’ve got about 3000 miles on mine now. Try sport mode with some fresh 93.
This is my 4th raptor, and while I hate the exhaust compared to the earlier v8, I prefer the looks.

I’ll be upgrading my ‘15 raptor at some point. There is no other truck, in my opinion. Everything else is just a generic truck

My first question during the test drive did you switch the modes from normal to sport? My sales rep didn't know a thing about the truck and didn't do this for me, it makes a big difference in acceleration. Also the dealers fill the tank up with 87oct so switching to 91oct or better will make a difference as well

Secondly @DriftwoodSVT did have a ton if issues with his but what @ON D BIT failed to mention is he had a 2018 when it is very well know that Ford made pretty significant changes from the 17-18 models and the 19-20 models most notably the motor and suspension.

Like most other car companies the first couple years of a new model there are kinks to work out and this raptor was no different.

You can get the tremor and I am not bashing it because I like them as well but a 7.3L has less power less TQ and weight more than the ecoboost not to mention the mod capability.

If I were in @DriftwoodSVT shoes I wouldn't get another one because I understand his point of view but don't that is not an issue at all with the 2020 raptor and don't like @ON D BIT cheerlead you into an uninformed direction.

Also if you can test out the recaro package vs regular seats.... that was a must option for me

Considering you’re opinion is always opposite of mine this is a stunning validation of my point.
More than one are turning in their raptors and purchasing the Tremor, 7.3 and 6.7. There’s another group turning in their gen2 raptors and purchasing gen1 raptors. Uniformed indeed!
Two friends had Gen1 Raptors and instead of going gen2 they went 250 platinums couple years ago. Yes, still uniformed....

The Raptor is meant for high speed dessert/off road racing. It does well in hill climbs as well.
The Tremor is a truck that can hill climb rock crawl run water and tow 15k lbs and haul 3k. No other oem truck does all this!
Goin from a Raptor to a Tremor...
Damn not another one. Posted 20 min ago...
