I’ll keep an eye out as we’re not that far from each other, and I have a pretty good eye for 86 GT’s. I sold this one a couple years ago.

Thank you! Car looks very clean! I am particular to any 86 GT, but would love a Jalpeno Red or Light Regatta Blue one. Honestly, i'll take any 86 GT exterior color, just would hate it if it had a red interior.

Thanks! Just saw your post over on FEP, you're likely to get some bites over there. That is also the site to be on once you find the right car, they know their four eyes...

I've been on the site in the past, but I don't know why I never joined. Hopefully someone will come up with a four eye for me to buy from them!

Ever hear back on that 82?

No. It's not really the car for me. I have no problem with an 82' and really like the rear taillights on 79-82s with the vertical look. That car is bone stock though and he's asking $9k for it. I've been looking at a few 87+ LXs, one in particular that's been repainted Sonic Blue, has a Vortech V1 S-Trim, Trick Flow intake, TF cam, TF heads, Astro T5, Ram Clutch, 5 lug conversion, and a bunch of other mods and he is asking $9500. I am looking for an 86' GT that doesn't necessarily have to have those same type of mods, but not a bone stock car and hopefully the car would have a handful of tasteful mods. Minor work that would have to be done, such as imperfect body panels, paint work, or a car with a transmission that might need a rebuild, but has those other tasteful mods is what i'm hoping to find.

My friend just bought an 86' GT with a 331 stroker, IRS swap from an 03' Cobra, 5 lug conversion, TKO 500 that has low mileage, but is hard to shift and may need new syncros, TF heads, TF intake, BBK shorties, BBK H-Pipe, Corbeau seats, Baer brakes, quite a few MM suspension parts. It is not perfect and needed a new harmonic balancer since the whole car used to shake before my buddy replaced it. The body is pretty straight, but the hatch has some bubbling towards the top and the car looks good when washed, but could honestly use a paint job. Again, this is an example of the type of car I would like to buy. He paid $9k for it. Here's the car...

That's a good looking car, seems like a solid deal. Just shows how much the market has changed in the last couple years, I sold the red one above with all the bolt-ons and a very clean interior (i'm picky and i'd give it an 8 out of 10) for $6K.

I wanted to buy a Fox Body years ago when I bought my 2013 WRX before I actually bought that car, but at the time I i was in college in Ohio and needed a car that could handle that rough Ohio winters. As I remember from my turbo 99' GT, I used to get stuck on the slightest inclines in the rain without a rolling start and I had a few harrowing experiences in the rain again on off ramps, not speeding with the car going sideways where I had to go into a controlled drift and those occurrences were both when I was N/A or with the Vortech installed. So I knew a Fox wasn't the smart move in the cold snow weather, if I couldn't even handle rain in my New Edge. At the time I was actually more in the mood to build a sleeper Fox, with a primer paint job, and all money spent on engine/suspension upgrades. It was easy to find one for cheap for under $3k and I could find a nice one for $7k+ in 2012/2013. After I bought the WRX new, that set me back $27k, so a Fox was no longer an option. Now that i've totaled my WRX, I'm all set to finally pick up a Fox and a 02'-07' WRX Wagon/STi as a DD.

Yea, I must admit, I am pretty jealous he got that 86' GT. He really got a good deal, the guy threw in a brand new BBK upper and lower intake, an 8.8 SRA, suspension parts, another pair of those AMR 18" reps mounted and balanced, and some other things I can't remember. Luckily my friend towed with his truck so he could carry everything the seller included, like the SRA. I have nothing wrong with 87-93 LXs and most likely will buy one if everything checks out the Sonic Blue painted one i'm looking at, but to me nothing beats the look of a 4 eye, especially an 85/86. I always felt 85/86 GTs look more aggressive than 87-93 LXs/GTs. It is imprinted on me since I grew up with an 86' GT, working on it with my father. The market definitely has changed. My father had a 10 sec. 89' LX in mint, and I really do mean mint condition with 10k original miles, a no longer made Vortech A-Trim, full weight stock interior, caged, and he sold it for $11,500 after originally asking $12k I think. That was in the early 2000s. Fox Body values were on the decline at the time, the whole U.S. economy was down at the time after 9/11. In the late 90s he sold his 64' GTO for $7500. It was not in perfect condition, but a 64' GTO in that same condition today would easily fetch low to mid $20s.

Not a fan of the Mach 1 wheels on there, but its a quick fix and it does have a 5 lug conversion.

If it checks out i'll try to buy it, but if I can find an 86' GT FS, i'll try to pick that up, but finding one year of a car is much harder than finding a car made from 87'-93'.

That LX turned out to originally be a 4 cylinder car from the factory, which isn't a huge problem for me for a Fox that has been properly swapped. After I had my friend who is a service advisor at a Mercedes dealership run a Car Fax and found this out, I also found out it had 6 owners, mileage that was last accounted for in 2007 at 130,000 miles and the current owner doesn't know how many miles are on the car since he bought the car with 3.73s and the previous owner never changed the plastic gear that corrects for the proper mileage. So that car is just too much of a hassle for me, but it may have been a blessing in disguise.

I think I may have found what I was looking for all along. A 1986 GT with 93k miles, under 20k on the 347 stroker, and is in excellent condition. Plus it's Jalapeno Red, which is a color I love and is in my price range. I've already talked to my friend and he said he is willing to drive there with me in his truck so we can trailer it back.

Nice... if you need jalapeño red inspiration... you can always check out my build thread lol.

Will do! The car is just what i'm looking for. 347 stroker, comp cam, TF heads, Edelbrock intake, MegaSquirt ECU, BBK LTs, UPR tubular K, C/Os, C/C plates, Corbeau seats that match the OEM gray interior. Rebuilt T5, which I plan to replace with an Astro T5 or TKO500. My buddy's 86' GT with the 03' Cobra IRS he just bought, the seller gave him the stock 8.8 with the sale, and the previous owner already did a 5 lug conversion on the SRA, so my buddy said he would let me have those axles and all I need are SN95 front spindles so I can get new 18" street wheels and tires of some kind.

Very clean car for anyone looking for something stock. Personally the auto is a no-go, but trans swaps are relatively simple jobs in Fox Body's.

I am in the process of buying the Jalapeño Red 86' GT I mentioned earlier. I'm getting it for a great deal. It is very tastefully modded and is N/A and makes a very healthy 385/420 to the wheels. I plan to keep it N/A for the foreseeable future. My friend has an extra pair of 5 lug axles from his 8.8 along with the Cobra rear caliper brackets, so I plan to install those along with SN95 front spindles and a set of aggressive 18" wheels/tires plus a new set of brakes for the front & rear. I'll probably stick with an 03/04 Cobra rear brake set-up and I will either choose 2000 Cobra R brakes up front or a pair of Baer brakes. My friend has Baer brakes on his 86' GT and I really like the way they feel and perform. I have a lot of suspension mods in mind, along with a MM panhard bar & torque arm. Many other mods, just what I want to do in the first 6 months or so after getting the car.

Here are a few. I'm going to remove the Xenon air dam and get the front bumper repainted. The owner said the left front tire blew out the day he bought it and he tried to remove the air dam which the original owner put on the car, but after removing it, a section of the paint got pealed off, so that is why he left the air dam on. I'm going to place the OEM 5.0 badges, some molding pieces, OEM "Mustang GT" sticker on the hatch, and place the OEM hood decal on the hood.

Here's a pic when the owner removed the Xenon air damn and it pulled off the section of paint as you can see.

The current owner confirmed what I had thought. The previous owner removed the Ford badge and filled it in and painted it over and placed a running horse below. Also the fog light cut-outs were filled in. I prefer having the fog lights, but the changes are nothing major.
