Pop the hood indeed. I think everyone has a sense that Ford will once again under deliver. Sure would be nice if they shocked the world and did what everyone wanted them to do even if only once.

Even though the FCA boys are certainly bold with their rivalry, which is awesome and much needed in today's ultra PC world, I suspect they have some reliable competitive analysis/intel to make such a statement.

All these OEM's know exactly what each other is coming to market with. Unless Ford has been working on a V8 option for at least a year, there is no way they could respond to the TRX in a matter of months.

By your logic Ford has known that the TRX was coming out with the Hellcat for far longer than a couple months.

Well, I am not holding my breath on Ford putting a V8 in the gen 3 and I love the styling of my gen 2.

V8 coyote swap is happening.

The first piece of the puzzle arrived, which was very hard to source since it was on backorder for so long.

I must be watching too much #YDBT, why do people try to reinvent the wheel? They want a 7.3 and super charged over the 5.2 predator motor? That's if the new raptor will have the predator motor. Lets assume it does, why would anyone want the 7.3? I mean coyotes are making strides, theres an f150 NA (no nitrous) running 10s.
There are turbo f150's running 8s, stock motor turbo coyote s550/s197's running 7s. But you guys want a 7.3?

I'm lost bruh, are you trying to be they first? LOL

Yeah, you're right. I didn't articulate that very well. What I meant was if everyone was thinking that Ford decided to drop a V8 in the Raptor as a result of the Ram TRX debut in Nov, OEM's don't move that fast. If they have been preparing a V8, it's been in the works for quite a while.

there is clearly an intercooler in that bumper. My guess is 550hp 3.5TT(more FGT tech) with a hybrid system. if I know Ford, they aren't going to mess to much with a perennial best seller. and as much bitching about EB that goes on here, sales figures call out the BS. My guess, is there will be a Raptor ST with a Mach 1 based 5.0 under the hood.

its sexy to have hellcat power in a truck, but if you are one of the 1% that use the trucks as they are designed for, a 4mpg truck out in the dunes isn't going to happen. unless someones uses their raptor to tow a TRX out to the dunes and then tows it back.

Well if the truck doesn't actually come out for a year or so yet then they can unveil whatever they want. They've known for at least a year that the TRX was going to have the Hellcat motor so they could have changed engine options and testing will continue to be carried out for sometime before actual launch. Plus, most of the development on that motor and suppliers have already been setup. I think it sounds possible.

Because at the end of the day its still a truck with very limited suspension.... The 7.3 offers absolute dead nuts reliability, bottom end torque and already more than enough power for its true capability.

No matter how much people and magazines scream and shout these trucks are not much more than a gimmick in the off road world

Isn't it labeled a MY2021?

True capable off road racing or true payload tow? I don’t think they can have both.

They kind of shit the bed at both lol. This is why I am a lightning advocate.

However, I do like that they inspire more interest in the offroad community, the OG offroad fab shops have gained a HUGE amount of business since the Raptor came out

Just a few of my thoughts...
- 7.3 SC or Turbo wouldn't make sense. Ford is all about diversity with components to keep costs down. If they do a V8 I would expect it to be the GT500 motor. Already a production unit and will be lighter than the 7.3
- What ever they have "up their sleeve" I'd be surprised if the announced actual HP #'s during the reveal. The 17's were in production and they hadn't even released actual HP/TQ numbers.

Anxious to hear what they have to say though. We have 7 people on our 2021 Raptor want list if it's a V8. One of them is me. Not sure I'll buy one but wanted to make sure I was on the list just in case. Love my Gen 2. Yes I'd like the sound of the V8 but can't complain one bit about the way my tuned 3.5 runs and the gas mileage I get. I have had my truck one week over 4 years and have 72k miles on it. So at 18k miles a year I'm not sure I'm willing to give up 4 or 5 MPG for the sound and additional HP/TQ.

If it comes out later this year then that would be an incredibly fast rollout for a Ford Performance vehicle. Going by their track record, there is no way it will be out this year, but if so then they must be way ahead on this thing. That just doesn't sound feasible to me knowing it is Ford.
