Anybody have any treatments that worked for them? I damaged mine while stretching and the pain shoots down my backside and leg to my foot. Walking is difficult and sitting seems to be the worst thing for it so I'm trying to stand and lay prone as much as possible. I'm taking Aleve and using Icy Hots. I wish I had access to a whirlpool or hot tub with jets.

Funny you mention this; I'm on my way to back rehab right now. She gave me some new exercises which are helping. Chiro helps a lot too. Get some professional help. Don't mess around.

I’m an interventional pain physician.
I’d suggest an MRI to determine the true source then hopefully 1-2 shots and some Physical therapy and a home exercise program takes care of it.
If it goes all the way to the foot you need an MRI IMO

I had tremendous luck weathering the storm until it went away by using a cheap over the counter TENS kit, maybe cost about $50. It provided fairly instant relief, especially when trying to go to sleep. Also, an inversion table helped as well.

True but why did it happen. Baseline MRI.
It doesn’t mean you need surgery but if you’ve had true sciatica you’d do yourself a huge favor my having a baseline MRI.

Physical therapy and yoga, specifically Baptiste (Vinyasa) yoga and patience. Also, this sounds silly but really make sure you are intaking enough water, half your body weight in oz’s is a great starting point.

Best of luck brother

Physical therapy and/or Chiropractic work without a regular strength routine of some kind is going to help short term only. Without strong muscles you’ll injure yourself again, I’ve been there and it’s awful.

it is sort of similar but it's like a very slow stretching of the spine over a 30 minute or so period of time....do that a few times per week and the nerve that is pinched should get some relief.
The way I'm pretty sure I hurt it was doing a handstand against the wall. It felt relaxing on my back but for whatever weird reason it didn't hurt until the following morning.

It might come to that. I'm going to give it a week and see if I improve.

Interesting. I wonder if that's because alcohol can/does cause inflammation...?

That's what it feels like to me personally. I wake up the next day in extreme pain shooting down my from my lower back and thigh and it feels like inflammation. The fact it was only doing it when I drank heavily made me think they had to be correlated and the alcohol was causing inflammation. Told my doctor and he couldn't say yes or no to it and said it could definitely be possible.

I can still drink but I just had to find a balance. It just sort of depends on the state of your body when you decide to drink and that determines how much I can drink without it flaring up. I avoid hard liquor mostly now though.

Pinched mine on 7 Feb, snow shoveling, which I shouldn't be doing & know better. I have an inversion table, which seems to be helping, but it's taking time to work itself out..
