I used this service for the first time today. I had four tires installed on my 2010 Ranger in less than two hours, outside of my home. The tires were balanced with new valves and the TPMS was serviced. I'll never go anywhere to have this done again. The old tires only had 9,000 miles on them but were made the first week of Dec. 2009.

Hard to believe its economically viable for the dealer. For sure a great service for you, however.

I bought the MT All Terrain tires from 4 Wheel Parts, at the best price I could find. The install was $177. If I went to a shop, it would have cost well over $200. Jack Williams is a large Tire Wholesaler in the Eastern PA region.

Well there is likely a minimum of $10k in equipment to mount and balance (tire machine, balancer, compressor, generator), before the truck, and labor.

$177 at a visit, I fail to see how its sustainable. But what do I know.

except that most dealers menu price regular service items like oil changes, rotates, tire installations, alignments etc. for instance our rate is $130hr, we pay technician 1.2hrs for 4 tire mount and balance, and 1.5hrs for alignment. But we charge $80 for a 4 tire mount and balance and 79.95 for 4 wheel alignment.

So in reality our menu price labor rate is closer to $60. And actually cheaper installed with a 4 wheel alignment than OP paid for mobile tire install.

I can see it.

$1000 balancer, $1500 mounter, $500 air compressor and a $1000 2000w Honda Generator. I doubt they are using a Ranger Road Force Balancer or Coates Tire Machine in these vans. Most are smaller, mid grade and low power units that can do 90% of wheel/tire combos. They will usually ask you what type of wheel/tire to see if they can even do it.

And you can cut the $500 air compressor off if you get a newer mounter since most come with them built in.

So $3500 for the equipment. Another $1000 for the install. The equipment usually has a pretty sick warranty period where you could easily pay them off within the warranty time.

Truck price and insurance would be the biggest factors i could see. If youre an established business with a good insurance record it could be quite profitable.

I've been doing this exclusively in my area for about 2-years. I know the guy and he takes care of my stuff. He shows up on time. I usually have the wheels off the car and waiting for him when he arrives. I gladly pay a little bit more than going to a chain store.

As far as I know, we have no service like that in my area. Very convenient, for sure. Beats having to make an appointment and end up waiting extra time in the waiting room. o_O

I haven't seen that service in my area, but we have plenty of mobile detailing services and a couple that do oil changes.

You’re paying for convenience and likely a bit higher quality service. I would definitely pick that over a general tire shop or dealer
