No point here other than a rant

Little back story
My grandma bought my 68 new.
In 2007 she passed away. My dad and I did a restoration.
In 2014 dad died
In 2014 I put the car in my name. My mom asked to be on the title too.
This is all in Oregon.
I am now living in washington and want to title the car here.
My mother has since passed away.
Washington claims that I have to pay taxes on my car because I'm "inheriting it"
Even though it's been titled in my name for 7 years.

Washington Can suck it. I'll leave that thing titled in oregon.

Why does it matter where the title is at? Or can you not register it?

Can’t get WA license plates.

It’s like that everywhere I’ve moved.

Bought my 73 CJ5 in CA in 2010. Paid sales tax

Moved to TX. Couldn’t prove I paid sales tax so got taxed again.

Just like everything else.

Taxes when you earn money.

Taxes when you spend money.

But wouldnt the original registration for ca show you paid tax on it already?

Im sure that state's definitely make it harder these days to make sure they get there piece of the pie.

Did you never have a tax-paid receipt for your CJ5 purchase in 2010? Or did you lose the receipt?

Why don't you form a Montana LLC?
Then get the title & registration in Montana... and slap a Montana plate on it?

I'm up to seven cars & trucks here and my registration fees are going up... AGAIN...
I'm debating on saying "F*** it", and form a Montana LLC.... pay something like $25 a year for Montana plates & tabs for each vehicle...

You had plates and a title which plainly indicates you’ve paid taxes, these people are mostly retards.

I recently bought a car from WA and took the title down to register it (I’m in TX) but the gal said I’d have to get a bonded title because I was missing a signature so I said f it, went home. Came back another day with another gal and I was registered and on my way in 15 min, I changed nothing

That is getting cracked down on. A lot of states now have it as a law that where ever the vehicle stays 51% of the year, that's where it needs to be tagged.

Pretty hefty fines for tax evasion.

It's a classic. I register it once and that's it. Forever.

To the person asking about registering it. It has oregon registration and title. They're expiring. I'm no longer an oregon resident so I can't renew them.

Washington bdoesnt require taxes paid on cara you've owned more than 90 days. Meaning if you move to washington you only pay title transfer fees. This is the last car I have with an oregon title. It's been in storage for years so I've put it off. The issue is they're trying to claim I inherited it because my name isn't the only one on the title, even though I've owned it almost 7 years.
But I found the law in washington stating I am exempt from taxes because the title shows survivorship. So **** them.

Yeah, it is or was pretty bad around the St Louis area to have "out-of-state" plated vehicles....

Back in the "early-00's", The "County-Brownies" there were cracking down on all the Michigan plated vehicles ever since the Ford plant permanently shut down. But on the "South" county area, Chrysler was operating two major plants side-by-side [then the minivan & truck plants... now being built in MX].
Thru the UAW offices in STL [even the Chrysler plant "guys"], you would here an occasional story or two of temp-employees [Ford plant shut-down/inactive, the employees were packing up its supplies/equipment] getting harassed by the police even though those guys still had homes in Michigan & were passing out on couches of other co-workers OR staying in hotels.

Then again around 2016 or 18, St. Louis area was offering an anonymous tip line to crack down on all the vehicles with Illinois plates but live on the "Missouri-side".

.................................................................................

Missouri's own fault, charge something like $35 for just "plates & tabs" THEN receive a Property-Tax bill months later on the same vehicle for $$$$$.
That's why the stickers/tabs had to go back on the center of the MO license plate around 2004/05.

Kansas is doing the same thing with the tip line.

Wow, Kansas plate/vehicle fees worse than Missouri?

If I had to move out west to that part of the country, I would pick the Kansas side of KC... just so I don't have to tack on a front plate & avoid MO vehicle property taxes.

We get taxed A LOT based on %, and electricity is expensive compared to neighboring states since we have fans instead of nukes and natural gas. But cost of living is low and it's a great place to live, and raise kids. Very big car scene as cost of living is so low (look at the youtubers from Wichita.) No front plate and no emissions and lots of fresh brewed E85 and E98 on tap.
Kansas is in the top 3 in nation when it comes to being gun friendly, between constitutional carry, open or concealed, no duty to retreat... hell even able to carry in college, etc. I can traverse Wichita in rush hour traffic in under 30 mins, when I'm in Denver I just dream of having Bigfoot 5...
Here the thing to know is the economy lives and dies based on aviation, we make 70% of 737 and the MAX fiasco kicked us in the nuts from behind right before the rona.

Kansas property tax on cars is higher depending on the area, they just tack it on when you pay your yearly/bi-yearly tags vs sending it separately at the end of the year.

One of my friends lives in KC. He is a retired machinist. The personal property taxes are ridiculous. Every year he pays taxes on his truck, suv, camper, mopeds, dirt bikes, atv, waverunner and his boat. That’s not even including renewing his plates for each.

if they are semi new, like 2017+ he’s likely looking at 3-4k in property tax. It gets really stupid when you have that much stuff.

I bought a place at the lake where property tax is closer to 5% rather than the 9.8% at my main house. So Atleast I am only paying 1/2 as much.

I can’t recall what the deal was.

TX couldn’t access the records.

It was titled in my name on the CA title so they did know that I paid sales tax.

Some rule about me not doing it within 90 days of moving to TX. I hadn’t started it in 5yrs so it was just sitting.

The chick hooked me up as best she could and used poor value on the shittiest model.

I will never live anywhere that I pay taxes on shit I already own other than property tax.
Property tax in my county here is 1.25%
