My FIL bought a ‘66 Jaguar XKE when he was younger, then stashed it in a garage for like 20 years. Then a lengthy restoration process.
When the car was finally done, he went to register it and MA charged him excise tax for those 20+ years.
He went to a lawyer and ended up having to pay it.
MA has a lot of shitty laws/rules regarding registration of vehicles.

Hey come to California. I have a 15 F250 and my tags this year are $575. I have 5 cars so I pay more than $1,000 a year for tags. Insurance is another thing. I pay $4,000 on insurance. Then fuel. Diesel is right at $4 a gallon and premium is around $4.50 gallon. I have had my house for many years so my property taxes are not that high but if you buy a home here be afraid very afraid. We have lots of poor people here and the poor just keep getting poorer.

There is a reason I don't live in your shithole state. And I've lived there before.
My entire issue here isn't the cost, its the fact they wanted to charge me taxes on a car I already own to simply change the title.
