It's a third car garage, all combined. For whatever reason, they recessed that bay about 1' for so. Not really sure why.
They did it for aesthetic reasons. That way the gable end with double garage door stands out more as a feature of the facade.

Congrats on the new home! Pics of the old home?

I went from what you are getting into, even with the same style 3 car garage to a 8.6 acre place. I would never go back to another house with neighbors that close. I do have the luxury of no kids at home. And 6 acres or so of my land is wooded, no real upkeep. I only go through about 50 bags of mulch a year. There is weekly yard work, but it is not oppressive. Plus, I can go out back and go shooting anytime I want and nobody cares.

Ah, okay. I can understand why the builder designed it that way.

Just curious why you apparently didn't use a lawn service to mow your lawn and keep up with the landscaping at the old house. Most folks up here use a service. Kind of rare to see people mowing their own lawns. Of course, our lots are smaller, too. LOL.

How many square feet is the new home?

New home is 5300 square feet with a 350 square foot unfinished section in the basement for storage/work room.

They did it for aesthetic reasons. That way the gable end with double garage door stands out more as a feature of the facade.

That makes sense.

I did for a month or two a couple of years ago. I couldn't hardly justify the $725/week haha I told my wife I would go back to doing it and spend the $3k/month on racing and such.

Man, I dunno if I could do that.

New house looks great, but that acreage of your old place was a great size.

I get priorities and spending time outside on the yard and maybe the new house is better.

But as long as you and the family is happy, that's all that matters.

Eh it was nice for a while. We still have some land to go play around on if we'd like!

I'm just tired of having to do yardwork, period. For instance, this week. I work Mon-Thurs until 7ish. Then we have soccer Mon (last night) until 8:45, dance and baseball tonight until 8:30, soccer tomorrow night until 9, Thursday night we have dance until 8:30, then Friday morning at 5am I pull out to go racing for the weekend with Gridlife in Topeka, KS. I'll have to mow tonight from 8:45-10 just so I get it done this week haha

Yeah, that's why I mentioned that we typically have smaller lots up here. My lawn mowing runs about $50 a week, but I only have a 1/2 acre lot. I certainly wouldn't want to pay $725 a week for mowing.

I downsized yard size as well a few years back due to time constraints. Now I have crappy neighbors and would go back in a heart beat if I could.

I was thinking the same thing !

Nick, just get a truckload of 20 yards delivered and dump it in the driveway.

you have a small tractor don’t you ?

I did that last year. I don't have anything small enough to get into the back on pavers by the pool. I have a Bobcat T632.

I will never, ever, ever use mulch ever again haha All rock for me.

I use mulch in the front of our house, but don't like it long-term because it has to be refreshed regularly. Stone, while more expensive initially, doesn't require refreshing over time unless it's extended. I do have stone under my deck and around my shed out back.

Very nice.

My wife and I are in the opposite boat, we live in a neighborhood and can’t wait to get out. Want something in the 2-5 acre range for our next house and no (relatively) close neighbors.

I went from a neighborhood, to 3 acres, back to a neighborhood.

If I didn't have all the landscaping or the pool, it wouldn't be a big deal. I enjoy mowing, it's just the rest of it haha
