Price jumped at one station in town .30 since yesterday. I'm sure the other will follow suit in a day or two. 4.86 on the low end, 5.20 on the high end. 93 trying to break that $6 mark.

Gonna be like 1980s soon. Maybe some cheap GT500s will be up for sale.

I've noticed in the past couple weeks a whole lot of pickups and SUVs going up for sale. And they're not selling as quick as they used to either.

I wonder how it's going to work for collector cars. Will the price of fuel make them drop, or will everything going EV make them more valuable?

You nailed the quandary before us. I think if someone is patient and digs, a deal can be found eventually. The collectability of the last of the gas powered muscle cars definitively will weigh against the un-affordability of fuel.

Traveled from our home near Vegas yesterday to Sequoia National Park.

Vegas: $5.19 for 87

Barstow, CA: $6.09

Random station between Barstow and Bakersfield: $.5.75 (topped off a quarter tank for this “deal”)

Exeter, CA: $6.89 (tourist trap!)

What were the refineries doing when gas was $1.78 per gallon?
"U.S. refining capacity is down by 1 million barrels of crude oil a day since the summer of 2020, tumbling to 17.94 million daily barrels on May 6, according to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA). Fire, storms, and declining demand early in the pandemic forced six refineries to go offline in 2020,"

If you were an exec in big oil, would you spend billions to update and restart refineries when the Biden Admin has enacted policy that will prevent you from getting a long term return on your investment? Nope! So here we are…

Good observation. I agree - pro green administration definitely sows hesitancy on the part of refiners to build more capacity.

Plus, they can’t get lending for it now, and don’t want to spend their own money on a shut down.
