You got a pretty good gig going on. I might have to jump on the Turo wagon too. I have a decent sized airport near me, Ontario airport, a sub branch of LAX. Wonder what kind of business I could drum up.

Just looked it up, I’m 3.9 miles away from ONT.
Depends what car you could offer but it can be a pretty good experience even with normal rental cars. I know jeeps do really well on turo.

Ya I was thinking something along those lines. There’s a lot of ski resorts less than an hour away from ONT so I would get something 4wd for sure and maybe even electric.

You would have to have a very flexible other job to get this to work (drop off). Seems like more of a hassle than what it is worth. Maybe if you could find a secure location near the airport and have a fleet of vehicles that would give you enough scale to hire a couple of full time FTE’s to shuttle back and forth.

Just got my 1st i3 rental last night. A full week too. Dropping off at the local equestrian center a mile from my house.

There having some week long event and the mom is coming from Utah to watch her daughter.

These are the moments us turo hosts live for. Lolololol.

But yes, I’m not quitting my job for this. My goal is to pay for all the cars off these two rentals. The Mach e has been a massive hit so far. The i3 has the potential because it was so cheap but only winter time will tell how well this goes.

Make sure you thoroughly clean the Monkeypox out of it after.

We just got back from a turo rental. Wife lost the key fob and car is still stuck in a parking garage about 6 miles from pick up site. Since saturday. Owner has a fleet of turos but didn't have an extra key. Went physically to his pick-up location both Saturday and Monday before we got on the plane to get home. He said we had to get a locksmith to make a new key. Turo, after a countless calls and texts from us said that we couldn't get a key made under rental because we didn't own vehicle. No local locksmith that we called would come out. Be interesting to see how this one turns out. First turo rental last month from a different host went perfect. Second has so far been a nightmare. Time and final results will tell if there will be a third. It will be interesting to see how this is handled. BTW, doing a fleet with solid customer service so when things go south, they get resolved quickly, could easily be a million-dollar business.

Wut? Are you complaining about Turo in your post? There are more twists and turns than a '50's dance.

Check your contract.

Should be mention of lost key charges.

Want to say it’s like 250 when I see it at Hertz or Enterprise.

I never said I had a problem with paying a lost key charge, I expected it. Picked up the car on Friday and key lost Saturday. Car owner was made aware on Saturday and sent me off to do a job that couldn't be done by me because he didn't have a spare key. Car is still as of last night is said parking garage over 1500 miles from where I sit today. It will be interesting to see what Turo ultimately charges me for what should have been a simple resolution by the host. If you VRBO a house and loose the key, do they tell you to call a locksmith and rekey the house? If you owned the said car sitting in a parking garage now going on 5 days, when do decide "hey, I better get my car back"? Like I said originally, I'll withhold final opinion until I see how this is rectified. I expect a 2-300 lost key charge. I fear it will become much worse.

The Mach E just got picked up for rental the next 5 days...older guy who owned a mach 1 in the late 60's...wife dropped him off to pick up the mach e, he got out of his wifes car with golf clubs...lol.

He was super excited to drive the Mach E. He rented it to just to cruise locally the next few days and golf with his friends each morning.

This car gets lots of attention. This has been my experience with it so far. Easy and friendly renters.

I agree. As a host I would charge you for that but it would have been resolved in less than 1 hour. Can’t even imagine renting a car on turo as a host and not having a spare key.

Sure it’s partially ‘on him’ for not having a spare key

But good lord, losing a car key, to a vehicle that’s NOT YOURS?

I haven’t lost a car key in my life, ever.

LOLWUT - you didn’t even have the car 24 hours. Wild to me that you’re even 1% upset over this

Glad it's working out great for you so far. I've seen a couple YTers try to Turo base model exotics and had issues. Seems average cars are easily less problems. I did a Turo in Hawaii and it was super easy. Dude has multiple cars in a parking garage and lock boxes on the windows. He said jeeps were the hot ticket, he had 6 rented out and 2 more on order. That was late 2019, precovid.... :( .... I can only imagine what an instant complete lack of tourists did to his job.

Yep. That state was one of the worst for covid stuff. The governor of that state makes newsom look smart.
