Many of us were in love with the countach as kids. Talked to an owner of one years ago who said theyre a wiring mess and terrible to drive lol.

Years ago i almost jumped on the bandwagon. My buddy who has built many (badass cars) advised me that it takes a LOT to make it a good car. He said you pretty much need to replace everything on the fox to make it even compete with his stock e36 M3.

The malaise era was still relatively fresh so the car was somewhat a breath of fresh air.
Absolutely. When I was a kid it was Mustangs from the late sixties that caught my eye. The Mustang II was an abomination such that the Fox arrival was indeed the second coming. I pined for an '82 GT when they were introduced but my God...157 horsepower was actually exciting? No.

The Fox caught on because it so easy to modify, swap, tweak, what have you from Windsors to Clevelands to 460 swaps. Inexpensive and the aftermarket dove in head first.

That was my point earlier. If you can find a good shell you are much better off starting that way then paying out the ying for a clean car only to gut it and pay for things twice.

I'm taking forever with my own '90 coupe but it is a much better car with a full Maximum suspension and a real braking system. It was truly liberating yanking the fuel injection and going old school carb with an all new fuel system. Simple to tune and maintain. I'm done mechanically and am in slo-motion with the body and interior.

I've done very little the past couple years due to some heart issues but I finally blended the front fenders and am slowly moving forward - and really enjoying it.

Sorry for the essay, just wanted to back up what I was saying. There is so much available from the aftermarket that allows you to go in whatever direction you chose to go. Start with a shell and make it yours. That's the appeal of a Fox to me, not an original in stock form. Half the horsepower of a modern V6 just doesn't cut it for me no matter how low the miles are.

Malaise era was embarrassing for American auto manufacturers and it is baffling how most vehicles were a complete turd besides the rare unicorn.

There is no doubt modern cars are better than older cars in every way. What's driving these prices is nostalgia and at this point there aren't too many original examples left. If performance is the key metric, modify the hell out of the fox or just a get a new car. I still think it's pretty cool seeing a factory super low mile example...and this goes for all car types. We'll see where the car ends up, I think it will be north of 45K.

It is very cool to see clean originals. They are a great reminder of the technology available at the time and what was done with it.

It was put on by ford loading it on the rail car at the factory
Right. And anyone who took delivery on the car was completely fine with 1700 miles being put on it by the delivery guy

This baby is pulling some good money at 50k with 24hrs left.

Foxbody market is strongAF!! I'd probably take a new dark horse over this for the same money though.

The auction ended with reserve not met at 56K. I wouldn't have let it go for that price if I were the owner. We'll see where this market goes from here...
