You could get a 429 in a 1969 Galaxie 500 XL GT, but not a Boss 429. That's not to say the Deuce didn't have one made, but I've never heard of it. Although that would be quite the custom ride!

Wasn't it just the heads that were different? Back in the day when guys used to buy those cars to tear up at the local tracks, they would leave them behind at the end of the season. Just out in the field. My uncle used to go out and pull engines out of them. He has several sets of boss 9 heads that have been sitting in the shop for like 40 years.

If I remember right, he said it was pretty common for people to throw those heads on 409s. I could be wrong, that was a long time ago.

Same 429 block, but different oil galley plugs. Boss 9 had screw in ones. Also different oiling adjustments. But yes the blocks were the same.

I don't have Roku, but I would have loved to have seen that several hour special. Southern California NHRA racing was THE best back in the day.
I just discovered I have Roku. I have been watching some pretty cool old drag racing. I watched the 1976 World Finals over the weekend. Some really cool Pro Stocks and Funny Cars.

That's a cool pic.

Gotta ask. Tony, your train ever hit deer? Or???

Deer, trees, various critters, people. You name it I’ve probably hit it. The tracks always attract weirdos for some reason.

They’re not usually this clean cut. Most deer are all beat to hell and spread out over several yards, or in a mangled mess out of the gauge.

Happened upon this little miracle a few weeks ago. If I wasn’t working with a new guy, I would’ve gotten a picture from behind with the spread legs up over my shoulders…

You’re not kidding. I’ll give them half a pass on jumping into, or standing in the path of a motorized vehicle.

Cars and trucks can be relatively quiet. Trains, even when they aren’t on the horn approaching a crossing or blowing out my eardrums by sounding the horn 354 times to alert me to their passing, are still pretty noisy.

Plus you can often times feel the ground vibrating. So even a Hellen Keller deer should pick up on something.
