Martin Jahn, a member of the board for Volkswagen’s Czech subsidiary Škoda Auto lamented the potential impact of the Euro 7 emission standards in a Sunday interview with Czech presenter Václav Moravec. He indicated that the automaker would need to lay off as many as 3,000 employees and potentially close a plant if standards are approved as written.

Anyone going to watch the "Final Call" Dodge reveal tonight? Should be the public release of the 1000hp+ Challenger. Some are saying its called the Goblin while others are calling it the Demon Redeye.

Wonder what the final name will be and actual horsepower it will produce.

The right of first refusal will set up a lively reseller market and free up existing Demons for sale.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) disclosed on Thursday that its electric vehicle business has lost $3B before taxes during the past two years and expects to lose a similar amount in 2023 with investments in new technology still pouring in. By comparison, the Ford Blue unit that sells internal combustion and gas-electric hybrid vehicles made just over $10B before taxes during the last two years. The Ford Pro commercial vehicle unit made $5.9B during the same two years.
Looking ahead, Ford (F) expects the electric vehicle unit called Ford Model e to be profitable before taxes by late 2026 with an 8% pretax profit margin. However, Chief Financial Officer John Lawler said Model e should be viewed as a startup company within Ford for the near term.
“As everyone knows, EV startups lose money while they invest in capability, develop knowledge, build (sales) volume and gain (market) share," noted Lawler. Ford (F) expects to be building electric vehicles at a rate of 600,000 per year, reaching a rate of 2 million per year by the end of 2026.
In terms of company-wide guidance, Ford (F) reiterated that it anticipates full-year adjusted EBIT to be $9B to $11B and adjusted free cash flow to be about $6B. Ford (F) also backed a prior a 10% margin target for company adjusted EBIT by the end of 2026.
The Detroit automaker's new corporate reporting system is designed to give investors more transparency than the old system of reporting results by geographic regions.
Shares of Ford (F) moved up 0.77% in premarket trading on Thursday.

NHTSA Looks Ready To Recall 500,000 1500 and Heavy-Duty Ram Trucks

Story by Thom Taylor • 9h ago

High-pressure fuel pump failures in diesel-powered Ram 1500 and heavy-duty HD trucks have been around for some time. And the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been investigating it. But today it announced that it upgraded its probe of the problem, indicating it is close to issuing a recall. The high-pressure fuel pump in question is the CP4 Bosch pump for the 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine.

Which Ram trucks are part of the potential recall?

The potentially affected trucks go back years. They include 2014 to 2022 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 HD trucks. The investigation recently added Ram 1500 trucks built from 2014 to 2022. Its investigation began in late 2021.
There are also other models with the Bosch CP4 pump that are part of this investigation. They are the 2021 to 2022 Jeep Gladiator, the 2014 to 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the 2020 to 2022 Jeep Wrangler SUVs. Even BMWs are part of the investigation. These models include the 2014 to 2018 BMW 328D, 2014 to 2016 BMW 535D, and 2015 to 2017 BMW X3 models.

What is an NHTSA “upgraded investigation?”

An upgrade in an NHTSA investigation means the agency is doing an engineering analysis according to Automotive News. This is the last step before issuing a recall. For the BMW models, the NHTSA says that BMW says, “Failed pumps on vehicles were caused by an interaction between pump internal components and U.S. market diesel fuel. This leads to increasing slip and eventual particle-generating wear surface.”

That'll end up effecting a lot of brands/vehicles.

The Future of Internal Combustion Engines in Europe Just Took a Turn

Story by Tobias Carroll • Yesterday 7:44 PM

The year 2035 was set to be a big one for electric vehicles. Why? Because based on guidelines under consideration by the European Union, that was when an E.U.-wide ban on new internal combustion vehicles was set to go into place. Earlier this month, the European Parliament approved the plan — but now, there’s been a slight twist.

After Germany sought an exemption for carbon-neutral fuels, the E.U. appears to be going along with it. As the AssociatedPress reported earlier on Sunday (via Autoblog), the two seem to have found a balance. Frans Timmermans of the European Commission provided an update on the process via Twitter.
“We have found an agreement with Germany on the future use of efuels in cars,” Timmermans wrote. “We will work now on getting the CO2-standards for cars regulation adopted as soon as possible, and the Commission will follow-up swiftly with the necessary legal steps to implement recital 11.”

As the New York Times reported earlier in the week, the debate over whether or not to allow carbon-neutral fuels has divided the automotive industry. Some have supported allowing them, while others have doubled down on a fully electric strategy. The Times cites both Ford and Volvo of supporting the ban on internal-combustion vehicles, while Porsche was among those in favor of modifying the ban to include carbon-neutral fuels.

The problem is that the OEM's are reacting now, because they can't afford to wait. The insanity is real.

Jaguar’s transition into a more up-scale, EV-only rival to Bentley and Aston Martin will come at the cost of the number of its retailers, according to a report by Automotive News. The publication posits that from 2025 Jaguar will offer a model range of just three electric vehicles, each priced significantly higher than the Jags of today. To build a new image of exclusivity, the number of dealerships selling Jaguar cars will be cut dramatically and more sales will take place online. There are currently 395 joint Jaguar Land Rover stores in the U.S. but that figure could be cut to double digits. As an incentive to give up their Jaguar franchises, dealers would be offered extra allocations of hot-selling Land Rovers and Range Rovers instead. “We plan to transform the way our customers in the U.S. purchase vehicles, by elevating the customer experience to be consistent, transparent and omni-channel, offering a seamless modern luxury purchase experience built on the latest digital infrastructure to serve them wherever and however they choose. We are progressing with our U.S. retailer network to put our customers at the center of everything we do and build a sustainable future for JLR and our retailers,” Jaguar told Automotive News.

Exhaust: Jaguar might come first in the JLR name, but it has been languishing behind Land Rover in sales and profits for some time. Chasing BMW-like volumes with smaller cars like the XE hasn’t worked, so everything is riding on Jaguar’s upmarket moves. — Nik Berg
