Maybe you guys can help me figure out what bike this was,,,,,anyway here's the race:

I was coming home from Wal-Mart after picking up GTA4 (awesome game), and I stop at a red light in the right lane. There was a BMW in left lane next to me, but he didn't want any. Up ahead (at same intersection) about to turn right was a maroon (dark redish) and black sport bike that was trying to make his yellow light to turn before I got my green. He gives it a little too much gas coming around the right turn, and almost lost the back end. He gets into the left lane and regains control over the bike. :uh oh:

I get the green light and just put my pedal through the firewall :burnout:. I hooked because my tires were warm from driving around for over an hour in 76deg heat (perfect day and sunny). My Nitto Drag radials grab and I take off through the intersection. He was already ahead approx. 4 or so car lengths (length of intersection). He goes wide open throttle (loud aftermarket exhaust) immediately upon regaining control of his bike, so were both at full throttle now. I sloooowly pulled up to him until I was only about 1 car length back, and I had to shut down at around 120-130ish for traffic that was quickly approaching ahead. I guess overall, I pulled maybe 3 car lengths on him considering where we both started from. If we didn't slow down, I would have sloooowly pulled by him. We both slowed to about 70, and gave each other thumbs up:thumbsup:. I tried to get him to go again from a lower speed, but he just took off again.

So guys, help me out here with the possible make of the bike. It was a sport bike with a wide rear tire. The exhaust was center exit (below tail section), and there were 2 pipes that had triangular tips. The bike was dark reddish metallic (maybe maroon) and black. I didn't see any markings or stickers on the side, but maybe I just missed them. The exhaust sounded after market, because it was loud, and it appeared to be carbon-fiber wrapped. Any thoughts on what kind of bike this may have been? Honda CBR???? I always wondered how my car would do against a bike,,,,,,,,,,,,now I know.:rockon:

r6 exhaust is on the side.. r1 comes out the tail.. I'm guessing either a ZX6R or 600RR

I doubt also it was an R1 but your description is spot on. Almost exactly an R1
If it was an r1 he most likely wasn't racing. Cause pulling 3 cars on an r1 is near impossible for anyone. Most people are happy to pull half a car from 40-140.

Here is a pic of an r1 matching your description.

I think it was a zx6r also as stated below. Is there a chance it could look like this?

do what now?

can you rephrase the above?

you walked him, you were a length back, you were 3 lengths ahead? I'm confused.

Also, how wide of a tire? Busa's tend to have uber wide rear tires, but that is excluded due to side exhaust

He started 4 lengths back, pulled 3 lengths, ended 1 length back.

i think what he meant, is he was about 3-4 lengths back when they both hit it WOT and he gained that length back, if he had more road he would of passed him. so over the course of the race he gaines 3-4 lengths on him

R6's aint no joke either: see thread of 600+rwhp sprayed cobra not being able to shake a new R6 from a highway roll. Movie was from mofobucs in movie section I believe;-)

Original Poster: It was probably a new kawasaki ZX6R.

Yes, this is correct.

It's hard to tell........ The exhaust looked like that, but were the r1's ever made with maroon metallic paint? I guess it could of been an aftermarket paint job, but it looked pretty factory to me. I don't think it was an r1, because there's no way the outcome would have been like that. I'm thinking something along the lines of a CBR600 or something. I think the guy lives in the area that he was pulling out of (sub-division at traffic light), so maybe I'll go over there and take a look around.

I have 2 R1's both 07's and can honestly tell you that my 1k whp TT Cobra will only pull mabe one car length on a good cold night on my street bike but when I bring out the race bike its game over and all it has is Akrapovic/power commander/dynojet timing adjuster/ and all the suspension stuff that I need to compete in road racing but power wise it lays down 185 whp and it lays a smack down on my cobra with a little over 1k whp. Said all that to say you didnt run into an R1

That must be one mean Cobra. Which TT setup do you have, and is it still a 6-speed?
