I would like to know what is involved in swapping to an '03 Mach lower intake from the dreaded stock '99 lower. A local guy is going to put a Nazty intake on his Mach and I figured I'd take his stock part off of his hands and do some light polishing on my own. Am I looking at any gains? Would I need a new tune after the swap?

I don't think it would be worth the time honestly. Unless you didn't get "the fix" they are virtually the same. The Mach has a few upgrades, but it is not like the 99 is choking your motor or anything. To answer your questions though, you will have to pull the alt, pull the coolant crossover, so you will partially drain your coolant, pull the injectors, pull the tb, pull the egr, pull all the vacuum lines, pull the throttle cables, unbolt the intake, replace the gaskets, then do it all again in reverse. It's not hard, just time consuming and probably won't net you any real gains. You would not need a tune either.

Well, not quite. You dont need to remove alternator, coolant crossover, the throttle body stays attached to the lid and the gaskets dont need to be replaced, at all. I've use one set at least 30 times and they're good for another 30. Just re-lube the rubber surface very lightly.

It's very easy to remove, takes about 15 minutes. The only things you need to remove are: 1) Air intake tube from the throttle body. 2) Their are four bolts on the brace for the alternator. Just loosen the two that bolts on the front and remove the two that bolt to the intake, than slide brace back out of the way 3) Unbolt the intake top and egr tube/throttle and vacuum pieces connected to it. Set it off to the side. 4) Use the special tool (any auto part store) to disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rails. 5) Pull injectors off with fuel rails attached. 6) Unbolt intake manifold.

^he's probably right on the removal. I have big hands, so for me it's just easier to get it all out of the way. You can pull the fuel injectors on the rails and leave the lines connected though, so ha! Got you there Todd!:) But, why even go through all that for no gains? If anything, buy that intake from him, save up the cash, then have it ported. That way, your car is not down any longer than it takes you to swap intakes and you do get a benefit from it.

Cool, thanks for the info. I thought the Mach 1 castings were much cleaner than even the fixed '99's.

They should be.. Might get you about 5 more rwhp not sure on exact #'s though. Tests have not been done to my knowledge. I will tell you, do what I'm doing. Buy the lower mach intake put it on the side and when cash flow is right send it to Nazman! I just waiting to save up the money right now to send it to Naz.
